the NRL may win the ratings tally for 2016, but what does it mean?

We have 9 games per round, 1 more on FTA, yet you have a longer season, you include rep games, we only have about 100 'exclusive' games shown to each city per year, you have around 200, our games average over 3 hours, yours over 2, etc etc

the vastly different scheduling for both codes means a total comparison is pretty meaningless. It pretty much boils down to who earns the most cash from their ratings.

Okay, do you want to remove Perth as an AFL state? but but but .

Opening round of NRL rated larger on FTA and PTV those are the facts that dopey dont want to talk about.

He would rather find the needle in the hay stack and try and jag a win with apples vs Banana comparisons then just admit that the first round of AFL ratings are flat.
Our easter Monday game smashed your two good Friday games. But of course Monday isnt Friday....but but but

? our opening game got 1.25m + sky, meaning almost 1.3m
your opening game wont get much more than 1.1m

Your Easter Monday game wont get 1.1m.
Our Easter Friday game will get over 1.1m
our season opener never rates among our highest rating games. How can it when our second biggest market get the game at 4pm on a work day, and we always show 2 teams that havent been succesful for 2 decades or more? The opening game has never been the AFLs focus

As for Easter Monday, our game will rate near 1.1m, far more than any day time home and away game the NRL has shown on TV

Yes I know there are differences in scheduling..

we may have a longer season by 3 weeks.
but when including our rep games
the games amount is identical.

Fact NRL season games 201 + 3 SOO + 2 Aus v NZ games on Avg = 206

Fact AFL Season games 206

yes the AFL got more in Tv rights, but its not hard to see why..
1 hour game longer, 70% more advertising..

did u watch last nights game the Second half had 2 adverts

in AFL including 3/4 time and adverts in 2 quarters
would be well over 30 adverts

lol and you wonder why you get a touch more money

you should be getting a Billion Dollars more

youre completely ignoring the fact the NRL shows 200 exclusive games per year while the AFL only has the equivalent of 100.

On Saturday I could watch 9 hours of AFL games, and you could watch 6hours, yet if we looked at totals only we would both be counted as watching the exactly the same

Youre comparison is too simplistic. Sydney has a far higher advertising market which balances the AFLs more ads

X man the length of your games and the extra advertisement they provide is the only thing that has kept you competitive for this long.

Your grossly overstating the lyons etc, and there worth to society. If people watching the Hawks etc didn't switch over during the breaks in there match then nobody would watch the GWS game. Instead of 70k
there get 45k.

If on Saturday I had to sit through 9 hours of that crap Id blow my farkin brains out.

I get your point.

Lets use this Saturday for example

2 games up against each other.
1 game live in to Melbourne
1 game live in Perth and Qld

St Kilda v W-Bulldogs Live into Melbourne

Freo v Suns _ live into Perth

if it was just the one game on that night how much would it rate

for example if it was suns v freo live into Melbourne

and via versa St Kilda v W-bulldogs live in to Perth

(see if your in Melbourne and don't give a rats about the St Kilda game
you simply just watch the other game (if you can) on fox.

see sometimes putting 2 games up against each other
with home teams beaming into the home state at night- works out better

If this happened in the NRL

Saturday night for example (same time at 7:30)

FTA game was Parra v Titans - rates in excess of 800k
Fox Game at same time 7:30 ( sharks v Storm )

it would still rate fairly high.

With this we have just got a game on FTA rating high, as it does
and a fox game rating in the 200k mark.

( feel free to add your opinion)

It works out better for an individual ratings session for Saturday night, which is exactly what the NRL have been doing for years on Friday. But it works out far worse if you count total ratings overall because we may get 1.1m from the night but it takes 2 games to do it. The NRL didnt do that because they then showed the game on delay to the other state. This meant your two games totalled 1.5-1.7m.

See, exclusive games to each market where as the AFL have concurrent games which end up far worse in the season tally

What a smashing! Look at those Brisbane figures for a game not even involving a Brisbane team. Imagine if Perth saw the game in prime time too

So without any regionals the AFL game is already 999k. Should be 1.2-1.25m after regionals. The NRL is only 634k without regionals so it will struggle to get to 1m

Yeah credit where its due, you smashed us last night with your 2 largest clubs.

While the NRL had the Titans playing which is equivalent to the Suns playing in the AFL friday night football. =D> =D>

Looks like the NRL does control its schedule, when was the last time GC suns or GWS played Friday night football?

2 largest clubs? Theyre 2 of the big 4 Melbourne clubs, 2 of about 8 huge clubs we have now. But they arent popular nation-wide. Viewers prefer a good game than big clubs. Carlton proved that last year. The two clubs last night played terribly. Both will miss the 8 on current form.

As for scheduling, the AFL show every team on FTA, not just Brisbane like the NRL.
