Asian Cup squad announced

Post by post_hoc »

The 23 man Socceroos squad for the Asian cup was announced by Ange today. & A League players in the mix so good news. Happy to see Luongo in there. Looks like a well balanced squad, really looking forward to watching them play.

Good luck to them, they might actually win some games with no European or South American teams to play against.

Is good to see footballs support doing well here like back home. But the standard of Australia's team internationally definitely needs to improve. Tim Cahill seems to be your only world cup standard player at the moment.

More friendlies against quality sides might help them to improve as Asia don't have any consistent playing nations. Top teams Japan and Korea don't even crack the top 50 in world rankings!!

With seven A League players in the squad it will place a lot of focus on their performance and how it reflects on the standard of the A League.

There are some promising new players. Your right it will be interesting.
Might help Australia climb back up a few spots on the fifa rankings as 94 in the world is not real good.

Disagree, the Socceroos have played a number of friendlies against quality teams in that past 12 months. Belgium, Brazil, France, Japan, spring to mind. We are also set down to play Germany next year, so I don't think that is the issue. The rankings are very fluid as well. I am less worried abiut the rankings, I want us to do well Final is possible not probable.

But tell me, what are the Socceroos without Tim Cahill?. Have they actually been competitive against a quality side without him?

Over 10 different people scored goals for Australia in the tournament, so not sure what you are saying
