Four of Top 10 programs for 2007 are Rugby League games...
Not surprising given Sydney/NSW has the biggest populations. Then throw in Melbourne making the GF and it has attracted a large viewing from the Second largest city.
I wonder if the result would have been different if two sydney sides made the GF.
I would expect that the AFL GF viewing was up on last year because there was interest from victoria. In previous years, with no Vic representation, lots of folk did not even bother tuning in.

The last time the Storm were not in the final was 2005, and there was still about 550,000 watching in Melbourne...( only 200,000 less than this year when the Storm made it...)
When you include the regionals, the AFL cannot beat the NRL grand final unless the Swans make it...
Anyway, with the 3 origin games as well included in the Top 10, Rugby League is a much more attractive proposition to Television markets..
Will be interesting to see the how the new contracts pan out in a couple of years...

Add another AFL team on the Gold Coast by 2010 and you can expect no change, with the AFL ruling supreme in the TV rights battle for dollars with the NRL. Melbourne Storm can't be expected to win the premiership every year. Viewer numbers as has been shown will drop dramatically in Melbourne when the Storm is not involved in a NRL GF.Willis 21 wrote:Will be interesting to see the how the new contracts pan out in a couple of years...
