lots of people in other countries follow the NFL though. Australia has a team for example

theyd make a UK team if not for the distance/time difference. Instead they take a sellout game there every year to Wembley.

they had one in oz as well for a massive crowd.

it just says a lot about your product that expansion overseas has continually failed.

meanwhile, international RL expansion has gone decently from post super league. NZ is doing great, Fiji is doing amazingly, UK is doing well after the RLWC last year especially. 2 African countries just became part of the RLEF. Nigeria the other day and Ghana from earlier this year or maybe last year.

Obviously neither sport will have the reach of union or soccer in the immediate future for a multitude of reasons. Union mostly because of money, influence and the ability of england to spread sports like it has done with cricket and soccer. Also, league didnt diverged very far from union until maybe the 60s or 70s.

they follow NFL comp played in the USA, but thats hardly surprising given the influence the USA has worldwide. Gridiron isnt played in serious professional comps around the world like say basketball is though

is that why league is going great guns, the Aussies had dominated the rl world cup for decades, after even the NFL supplying several players
league started well over a hundred plus years ago, and is only remotely popular on countries where union dominates :)))
so your little game of league evolved out of union and rides off the success of union :)))

just quickly scanning over the 2012 engligh league report
their annual turn over for the whole league is 21,846 million pounds in current exchange rate aroud $40 million australian dollars
thats size is what a mid sized AFL club does
thats in England a city with a population of 60 million as well!
keep pinching your self basement dwellers, league is a minnow game there as well :)))
