Which is the best football code? Here you can have it out with other football fans.

Adumb we are talking about the "tradition" now de cwowds you dumb drop kick. Of course I'd love it if nrl gathered the same cwowds as AFL but it doesn't and the tv coverage is second to none so tis cool. It's the game I love not whether it gets massive cwowds.

Anyway enough off topic adumb bullshit, the tradition is literally meaningless. Tho it is funny and has prob given michael hutchence something to laugh out loud about from the grave  he'd be like "they used my best love song for that??? :?> :?> :-k :_<> " :_<>
well it is a new tridition Eliagh
Port Adelaide's crowds have never been this good and the song maybe the starting of a great tradition.

listen, look up of the meaning of the lyrics dipshit eliagh before attempting to comment anything about it.
Look up the meaning of the lyrics? Have u been on the turps again adumb? It's a fucking love song ya silly tosser!

If the players acted on the lyrics theyd be hugging it out with their opposition after the ball up.

It's a very confused tradition ;)

the song isnt for the players to go and hug each other. Some thing that you would love it to be.

the song is for the fans to show their support for their football team
Australian sporting sponsorship
AFL excess of $50m
A league $30 million plus
ARU $27 million
NRLOL $25 million

 cos I don't give two shits whether the fans enjoy it or not. I'm simply analysing the tradition. I find that playing a love song before men play what is considered a contact sport is kinda well confused is my analysis. It's odd and weird and it doesn't make sense. Sure it's something a bunch of fools would fall for and this is what has occurred. I say, good for them! But they coulda chose a Whitney Houston number to really...share the love

The original meaning behind the lyrics are irrelevant. While originally the song may have been about lovers, in this context it's interpreted to mean that the Port Magpies and Port Power unification will 'never be torn apart.'

Similarly the original lyrics to 'you'll never walk alone' are about comforting a woman whose husband commited suicide. The Liverpool army obviously aren't singing about that, they've taken the song to mean they're all in this together, united.

I really don't see how you're having such a hard time understanding how song lyrics can be interpreted differently from their original meanings for different purposes.

Dwac! You're talking to me again! Boy I thought after you misunderstood what I meant by "leaning toweda the AFL on this one" that you were gunna do the no talky talky thing forever :? But obviously you've now realised you were mistaken so good for you pal! :thumbleft:

It makes me a bit teary to know you're back and talking to me actually

Dwac, this ones for us bro,....for us....because we should never forget how those horrible members phelpsy and co tried to tear us apart :x

There, a much more meaningful and relevant use of the song. It's really not that hard to do, pick a relevant song to apply, but port seemed to be able to fuck it up comprehensively

Yes, jealous of a great event so they can only revert to what they know best and that is personal abuse.

Jealous? No no no no no. I'm happy for them. If they and you guys think playing love songs before footy games is cool good for them and you guys. It's great for Adelaide too, a town that apart from the fringe has little happening so great they collectively sway around to a love song b4 a footy game if that's what rocks their boat. Perth, the most isolated dump of a city in the world should adopt something similar, a Whitney Houston number would prob be something west coast eagles fans would really lap up before their games.

No I'm real happy for em :) and it'd be fun for hutchence too. This is a visual description of him in his grave when he heard of the 'tradition' :(/

 I was standing, you were there ... :_<>

No I'm afraid the thread title and question asks us not to "leave it at that" cos me boy.

Sheesh, what's wrong with you? Clearly against discussion and losing this one :)

Even so matey, do you think the weagles would like this lil number to become a pregame tradition ? Maybe with a lil cameo by benny cousins and some blow just to ensure we don't stick to the original meaning of the song, as apparently is the AFL Dwacs and ur way cos?

I like what Port has done to completely turn around the club's fortunes.
FYI the Eagles and Dockers have their own pre/post game traditions.
Nice try Cos.
