Please quantify far behind.
As for gimmick fireworks going off the harbour bridge right now in celebration. No passion. You lot no nothing.
PS please keep up personal vitriol as always shows a weak argument

Re: proof that SOO is nothing but a state vs state gimmick
Interesting data but on the key arguments of broadcast revenue and TV ratings the NRL does not lag badly at all.
When it comes to memberships what is the criteria because no standard definition exists in either code and the idea that membership equalled ticketing has long since ceased in the AFL. One only has to look at the offerings of any AFL club to see ticketing is not mandatory for membership.
The NRL has tens of thousands of members who are non ticketed but are members of the Leagues clubs. The Roosters for instance are a fully integrated organisation ie they are the Easts groups with the football club part of the group and the one board runs it all. They have 45k+ in members of the Leagues club. The NRL did not even worry about ticketed football membership until recently when club revenues were threatened, particularly in NSW, by increased taxes.
So what constitutes a member? If the non ticketed AFL members are in then so are the 100s thousands of leagues club members who have always regarded themselves as leaguies.

Re: proof that SOO is nothing but a state vs state gimmick
I might add on sponsorship that given Sharks have not had a major sponsor last two years due to ASADA issues and Eels have been wooden spooners last two years and a management basket case off it for 5 that they both would fall at the bottom of the NRL table also.
The Broncos are listed on the ASX so have detailed financials but do not appear to itemise sponsorship.
The integrated nature of leagues club football club no doubt makes it difficult to identify.
As far as an independent commission goes the breakthrough for league was to get a single unified ownership and divest themselves of News Ltd post Super league wars. This had curtailed revenues in particular TV. The commission was an additional bonus and the mechanism used.

Re: proof that SOO is nothing but a state vs state gimmick
I am a member of my local RSL - they have a darts team, a social fishing comp, a bowls team, a billiards team and financial assist a football club - now it's the NRL clubs that choose to divest their holdings, they are separate LEGAL entities - one May gift money to the other but they are separate. If they became one then you may have a point but here is the clear distinction - members pay to be a member of a football club to show support to that club - a member of leagues club could have multi-able reasons - to utilise their free gym with membership (Harboured diggers springs to mind), to get cheaper services, to gain entry etc etc, they may not even follow the football club the leagues club gifts money to! It's not the same and you know it!enarelle wrote:Interesting data but on the key arguments of broadcast revenue and TV ratings the NRL does not lag badly at all.

Re: proof that SOO is nothing but a state vs state gimmick
Why is it Leagues downplay crowds, sponsorship, membership, football club revenue and AFL revenue??? Why do they point to ratings yet don't acknowledge that we don't know who's watching - e.g. Actual club supporters or just interested bystanders - emenarella until you leaguies acknowledge some basic facts how do you expect anyone to take you seriously?enarelle wrote:I might add on sponsorship that given Sharks have not had a major sponsor last two years due to ASADA issues and Eels have been wooden spooners last two years and a management basket case off it for 5 that they both would fall at the bottom of the NRL table also.

Re: proof that SOO is nothing but a state vs state gimmick
So once again despite the fact that rugby league is different, evolved from a different place with a different culture it must confirm with the AFL rules to define what it is to be a member. Leagues clubs built their model on the basis of being a working mans game and club so low cost of entry and funds generated through services generated.
Remember they were not called Leagues clubs for nothing. Some of the AFL crew might like to visit one, have a look at the pictures on the walls, names of the bars, what night the players will be along for autographs, visit the merchandise shop etc
Please let's not go down the poker machine road because the VFL were all noble about them when legally they weren't available. When they became legally available look what happened.
Viva la difference!

people sign up to be a member of a leagues club because it is a condition of entry in to the venue
so you want to add that on to the NRL rugby clubs overall membership?
leagues clubs are glorified pubs filled with poker machines, that often book 80s tribute bands, fun for the family, dazza and shazza go and play the pokes & junior will go and play the ps3 for hrs on end. they will use the name of the NRL club as its brand.

Re: proof that SOO is nothing but a state vs state gimmick
AFL was built on the working class as well, all of the melbourne teams are suburban teams built out in the suburbs playing out in suburban club grounds, that they out grew, by attracting sheer crowds people are passionate about their clubs, that turn up as well as buy memberships. The popularity of league is vastly over hyped as they have never had the interest, crowds membership or participation rates as the AFL. its a gloraifed amature league thanks to the packers & murdoch;s pinching of off the ABC and having super league warsenarelle wrote:So once again despite the fact that rugby league is different, evolved from a different place with a different culture it must confirm with the AFL rules to define what it is to be a member. to my knowledge all AFL clubs have social clubs as well which would be similar to leagues clubs, but the difference is they arn't mini casinos like the NRL clubs ones. All of the AFL clubs have the ability to raise at least 30 million to 50 plus out of football related revenue, eg membership, sponsorship match returns, which rise steadily every year, but all clubs are investing in state of the art training facilities, pokes are another form of income, all beit only a small part of their total income. clubs like the Essendons, Collingwoods & carltons have in the last several years have spent 30 million in training and admin facilities
NRL clubs are opposite, the clubs are worthless, low memberships, crowds, sponsorship & most of them are based in the biggest Advertising money making marked in Australia NSW, yet their revenues are pathetic. the most wealthy NRL club the broncos, own a massive leagues club, and train the council field behind it and have their gym, weights in a tin shed behind the leagues club,

Re: proof that SOO is nothing but a state vs state gimmick
did some quick googling and found some revenue listings for some a-league clubs
Melbourne Victory in 2012-13
Revenue : $14.4million
Profit : $255,844
http://www.afr.com/p/lifestyle/sport/vi ... xj0aHNkJLN
Sydney FC
Revenue : $11million
Loss : couldn't get an official number but all reports suggest it is in the millions which looks bad obviously, but our billionaire owner doesn't seem to care and slowly we're getting closer to breaking even anyway.
http://www.fromthestandsal.com/2014/02/ ... ng-around/
WSW
no source but their revenue is supposedly more than Sydney FC, of which i would hate to be true but whatever, the FFA sold them to a new owner for $10million at the end of the season
I wonder how they compare to most NRL clubs?

Once again the master of misinformation strikes again - from his basement he emerges with a soiled nappy clutching his old torn copy of mein kampf wearing a bowlers hat - then he speaks - The Panthers, Broncos and Raiders earn more - but he omits one very clear fact - it's the Panthers hotel group, the Broncos hotel group and the Raiders hotel group that earns more - NOT THE FOOTBALL CLUBS! Alas he can't see the distinction for the obvious reasons - life as he knows it would cease to exist! So his cherished Snot Green Raiders played a home game last night in our nations Capitol - with no soccer, AFL or even RU games to compete against - on a nice Friday Night against a top 4 Sydney side - supposably one of the biggest in Sydney - only 3 hrs drive from Sydney - the result 10k! The result another dismal performance, the sad fact is the snot greens of Canberra are nothing more than a social football team attached to a leagues club! So back to the basement he goes, a fresh nappy newly changed by his mummy and back to his dreams of world wide domination!Raiderdave wrote:sydneyfc wrote:did some quick googling and found some revenue listings for some a-league clubs
