It may be the best in the world v the best in the world but by very definition if you have players in it born OS or interstate playing it's NOT SOO!!!! Origin matches are highly successful events in their own right, but they do not accurately reflect interest in Rugby league, any more than tv ratings for the Olympics accurately reflect a widespread interest in Athletics. People watch it for the spectacle, the theatre of it. Not for love of the code or the NRL.

hence the title of the thread "proof that SOO is nothing but a state vs state gimmick"
and it will only continue to be proved right, as the two SOO games are played, the NRL crowds will drop off.
SOO so much media hype NSW vs QLD state vs state, bandwagon interest,

AFL has no contest where the AFL world has a team.

Emenarella perhaps you can explain it - if it is SOO why do both sides have players that were born OS or in other states???? It's all very well to say it's the pinochle of RL but if that's the case why call it SOO???? It therefore can't be a representative match because it's participants have manipulated the entry requirements - it makes the whole thing farcical - and like I continue to say if you enjoy it that is all that matters but don't expect others to look at as any more than a Tina Turnner gimmick. But unfortunately this is the ONLY area where RL takes centre stage - not in crowds, revenue, sponsorship or interest and passion week in week out - it is fast becoming the main event with your club competition a very sad side show - if that's what you want fine - but how do you sell it to Victorians, WA, SA, NT and Tassie people that they MUST play for either NSW or QLD to be part of it - how do you ask people from other states to maintain interest and be passionate about the contest and look it as just another event - yah can't because there is no attachment there! As for TV ratings - tell me just ONE thing with the ratings what is the percentage of support for each side????, Why doesn't those ratings translate into crowds, sponsorship or revenue???? It is one indicator and only one indicator of interest (and not a good one - generally people don't put their hands in their pockets for it!). But in every other indicators AFL is streets ahead!!!!
