Not sure if right thread but just speaking to three young blokes from Darwin on xxxx island and asked them what's the main code in Darwin , they said pretty much everyone plays a bit of everything and your mates will drag you along to play but generally all three said AFL was the main sport . Well, they said footy and I asked is that what AFL is referred to , as footy and they said yeah , if you're talking footy you're talking about AFL .

Rugby league Nines to feature at Glasgow Commonwealth Games in exhibition tournament

RUGBY league is set to feature at this year’s Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

Following the raging success of the Auckland Nines in Februaury this year, the shortened format will be showcased in an exhibition tournament featuring eight countries.

The NRL on Monday confirmed Australia would be represented by the Sydney Roosters’ SG Ball side in the event to take place over two days on June 27 and June 28 at Broadwood Stadium in Glasgow.

Australia will be joined in Pool A by Wales, Scotland, and Jamaica, while Pool B will feature England, Papua New Guinea, Canada, and South Africa.

NRL head of football Todd Greenberg said the tournament would be a unique oppurtunity to showcase rugby league to a broader audience.

“After the success of the 2013 Rugby League World Cup in the UK and this year’s Dick Smith NRL Auckland Nines this is another amazing opportunity to showcase rugby league on an international stage,” Greenberg said.

“The international reach of rugby league continues to grow and hosting exhibition events such as this, ahead of the Commonwealth Games, are incredibly important for the game.

“It is also a wonderful way to showcase NRL’s development pathways and some of the best young up and coming talent Australia has to offer.”
