I think what some of the boys are trying to say is that spear and sling tackles in the AFL are now considered illegal and there have been suspensions because of them. This has come in to play in the last 2 AFL seasons. While what you are saying is that a good solid tackle when you tackle them hard (not head first) into the ground is perfectly legal. For some reason the rivaly between you and the AFL supporters tends to break down into a shit flinging match. As for fist fights on the field, it use to happen quite often, however now days in the AFL any solid punches that make contact usually result in about 2-3 weeks suspension. A player for brisbane lions in the GF in 2004 in his last game punched another player 2 times and got 10 match ban and 15K fine. So as much as AFL players want to have a punch on they dont really do it. When you get suspended for 10 games and your club is paying you 500K a year they get a bit upset. At the amatuar level where they can get away with it more easily punch ups happen more often.King-Eliagh wrote:Been playing well, for when I have been playing piesman thanks. The funny part is that this argument about legal tackles and illegal tackles has gone on for a phew pages now..piesman2011 wrote:I think what some of the boys are trying to say is that spear and sling tackles in the AFL are now considered illegal and there have been suspensions because of them. Sure has eels, and it looks as though I'm right if we take pies mans post as accurate, which I'm sure it is. Thanks piesman you may have finally ended the shitslinging match with some objective and reasonable comments.
TLPG where did i talk about spear and sling tackles?
I think you're assuming far too much and are very negative towards me which causes you to make bumbling errors of judgement. I tackle em hard and drive em into the turf, which is legal. Show me more respect and you'll look far classier in here TLPG and your umpiring might improve a notch or two also.

'Driving them' into the turf doesn't mean it's legal, as piesman showed.King-Eliagh wrote:Sure has eels, and it looks as though I'm right if we take pies mans post as accurate, which I'm sure it is. Re: The Truth is a bitter pill to swallow
My absolute last word - as demonstrated in the video YOU provided, the ONLY way you can "drive a player into the turf" is with a spear or sling tackle!!! Or a push in the back as was seen!
I will never show respect for a person who is showing clearly that he doesn't understand the game at all - as Beaussie said; "When was the last time you played?"
I say "Never!"
That's it.

Re: The Truth is a bitter pill to swallow
Good point about push in the back TLPG. I forgot about that one. yeah I guess the words "drive a player into the turf " does sort of mean in the AR world illegal tackle. But I can see KE's point of view as well. I think you are both agreeing on most things (sort of), except on KE actually playing AR. Just want to say that im not an expert on all things AR, although I do watch 2-3 games a week and feel that I have a handle on most of the rules. Im sure TLPG is much more of an expert them me.

Re: The Truth is a bitter pill to swallow
Ahh TLPG,
Piesman may indeed be right. But. There's many literal ways you can drive a player into the turf completely legally, as is shown in my video. I never once mentioned a push in the back, nor a sling or spear tackle. Grabbing a player around the waste from side on, lifting him off his feet with the momentum of force provided on contact and then driving that player's BODY into the ground is completely legal in marngrook and this is what i was referring to. Unfortunately TLPG jumped to conclusions, automatically stating i was referring to some sort of illegal tackle, in an attempt to either (a) make me look like a thug --- or (b) assert his knowledge of the game as superior to mine. Fortunately he's done neither and could now be considered to be a somewhat subjective umpire, depending on his intention to assert himself over the players, he may indeed make foul decisions on the field, as he has in this thread.
TLPG I'm disappointed in the lack of respect and ill judgement you've shown to me as a fair but firm player of marngrook
That will be the final word on this matter. From here I will be reporting back on my on field exploits including any legal driving tackles I make in the near future. :D
Yours sincerely,
KE :>::

Re: The Truth is a bitter pill to swallow

Well hasnt it been a while!? I didnt even report back on my on field exploits during the second half of season 2012. It was indeed better than I expected folks. Another Best On Ground came my way and in two other matches i was in the top 5 players, earning points and free beers after the match :D Yes, I have to say I was completely satisfied with the second half of the season...my niggling injuries went away and I was able to play some damn fine footy. Funnily enough though I didnt get as many driving tackles as i was expecting. No, instead the contested mark became my forte, and something fellow team mates came to talk about and respect.

And now its 2013 and I'm happy to say after an off season training and improving in the art of boxing, and then a lazy two months of partying and sittin on my ass most the time, I'm now back in training! Yes I'm back and looking to get fully into shape before the first round and improve on my playing and knowledge of the game. I'm happy to say our club now has a coach with AFL experience. Yes I'm learning off some of the best blokes in the business now folks and, well, I'd expect you AFL supporters on this site should bow down and show respect when I start talking about the game of marngrook and the strategy and skills involved. Most of yas have never played much above under 11s right?
Stay tuned to this page folks. I'll aim to provide more updates than last year keeping you all updated on my performance.
Yours sincerely,
KE :D

Re: The Truth is a bitter pill to swallow
Hi Folks!
Well its been a while since I provided you all with an update and that's well...its hard to say this but I've had a bad start to the season and, after Saturdays game I've only played two games all season long. Injuries are a curse but, I'm proud to say I had a ripper game this weekend and scored the best goal of my short career in marngrook :D It was a lovely day for footy and apart from my classic goal, I managed to set up a few goals and played well all over the ground. :D :D
But alas folks, I was also injured out there. I gutsily hung in there for the entire game and let the adrenalin take me through but...im worried ill be out for another week
I'll keep y'all posted.

Shame about your injury KE, i do remeber the thrill of a good goal as well. I'm curious, roughly were abouts in Sydney are you playing? You don't have to be specific just looking for your general area.
