Okay now I need help.
Rugby League has a lying culture. Altering crowd figures, relying on inaccurate TV figures from regional NSW and refusing to distance itself from Leagues Clubs and obtain it's own club memberships as it relies on LC's to survive as private entities.

Well folks, today was an important day. My first game back playing marngrook. Its been awhile and I have to say i was not so happy with my performance but its only the first game of the seaon. I started the game and for the first five minutes was really just walking around marking my oppponent, the ball never came close. Then a flurry of action and running, and well my fitness was lacking i must say. As the game wore on though I became used to it and managed to use my rugby skills to bury two blokes into the sopping turf pretty hard. Even thoughthe turf was soft they took awhile to get up  But alas folks today was one of my worst performances. I felt like Karmichael Hunt out there rarely getting my hands on the ball, not that it came my way much. It was pretty scrappy out there. Perhaps it was the conditions, sunny but long grass which was very heavy and muddy due to the heavy rain on thurs. I'm more used to the dry pitches of alice springs. Maybe it was because the coach ran me in diff positions than I'm used to. Or maybe it was my fitness in the first trial. I tend to think all of these things was the reason I didnt get as much ball as im used to.

In any case I scrubbed up well in the defensive line, without a goal scored on me and knocking the stuffing out of a few blokes who thought they might get through me. So all in all I rate the performance a 4/10. Plenty of room for improvement, and believe you me, there'll be much better days ahead :D

You seriously don't expect us believe that dribble do you? Especially after the uneducated comments you make about ARs on this site. #-o #-o

The truth is sometimes a bitter pill to swallow Xman, but swallow it you must my friend.

Next week is the second trial game folks. I'll be training hard this week and lets hope the weather stays dry.

 Howdy folks!

Well its been a tough beginning to the start of the season with really poor weather taking out trial games. However we managed to play last weekend and I'm proud to say I gave a much improved performance out there on the weekend folks. My fitness is improving and I managed to nab about 7 marks and gift 15-20 disposals. Yep, I'm back! But its only a trial so im not too chuffed with it all yet. The bigtime starts this week :salute:

Also I forgot to mention we were fortunate enough to have some swans players come take us for training during our preseason a few months back. I thought they had fairly good kicks but their physical size was less than impressive. I was expecting them to look a bit bigger/stronger than they did. I guess they're aerobically really fit but one mustnt forget the importance of strength in such a game. I'd send that on to the coach if I knew him.

Stay tuned for the next update folks. The season proper is about to start and I'm feeling confident! :D

Utter BS!

Out of interest, why do you play ARs and not your obvious passion RL?

No, its the truth Xman.

Go and read the first page of this thread and you'll get some of the reason why I ended up playing Marngrook. It embarrasses me to be so honest but that's how i roll.

So according to you your ARs career is centered around a fear of contact. :-k

I'm sure you'll be a star on the bench!

No not at all. It begun out of a realisation that the Rugby codes were simly too physically demanding. In stark contrast I deal out the punishment in Marngrook :<> The players just arent used to getting thumped but i prob should be thinking more about my technique as I guess its important to attack the ball more than the man. But on the flip side I also know physical intimidation goes a long way on the field and a good hit early on makes your opponent much less confident.

Yep as I said earlier, there's no 110kg beasts trying to run over you in marngrook. Its mostly blokes within the 70-90kg range I'm smashing each weekend  Good fun, its really good fun! :D

Interesting. :-k

On the way home from work a couple of weeks ago I stopped by and watched a local RL team train. They saw me there watching and asked if I wanted to have a go. I said I didn't really know the game that well because it is such a minor sport in Victoria, SA, WA, TAS and NT, but thought I'd be alright because, lets be honest, it looks very very simple.

So, to cut a long story short, we played a quick practice match and I ran in 6 tries in about 15 minutes. These guys looked big but just couldnt lay a tackle on someone who knew how to run in more directions than straight ahead. The passing was simple too. While they dropped catches from 5 meter passes, I managed to hang on to every single little throw. I was also surprised when they asked me to kick for a conversion and they placed the ball on the ground about 20metres from the goals. Because no one was standing the mark it was like a kick from the goal square for me so I played around a bit and kick them all through with my opposite foot.

Anyway, they say it's brutal and all, but it's amazing how easy it is to run around guys who are so unfit and pretty much overweight. :P

AAaaarrggghhhahahahaa haahaha hohoho eehehehe Bwaaahahaha haha ho.. he ha..ha...ha... aaahhh. You're a hoot Xman but really we all know if you took one step onto a league field you'd be ploppin poopies in your pink panties and too frightened to put yourself in front of any man on the pitch. When I played I wasn't afraid but I was smart enough to realise it wasnt for me (I'm not great at every sport, just many  ) hence my switch of codes.

And by the way RL has a defensive line, "running around this" is mostly not done, you gotta go 'through' it Xman

Oh dear KE! It is hardly a challenge to run through a defensive line of big immobile gorillas. You just run around them. You know, change direction a few degrees. You should try it some time!

I can honestly say now I have played both codes that ARs is tougher because contact can come at any time and from any direction. In RL its just all so predictable.

Heard it all before Xman. But the contact in MArngrook is incidental i.e. players are going for the ball. The contact in RL is purposeful and with intent i.e. players go for the man. Big difference. Furthermore the average AFL player might make 5 tackles a game. League its between 15 and 70.

Xman its easy to make you look silly because you're clutching at straws and telling fibbs. Try be honest, objective and tell the truth sometimes, like me. :)
