RATINGS | SOFT LAUNCH FOR THE A-LEAGUE AS SPORTS FANS PREFER TO STICK WITH SUPERCARS
Kevin Perry

Image

Viewers have failed to arrive for round one of A-League on its new broadcast home at Channel 10.

The decision to schedule a Sydney derby for round one of the new free-to-air broadcast deal appears to have been met by apathy from much of the rest of the country, with a national audience of just 146k (102k metro) tuning in for Saturday nights clash between the Western City Wanderers and Sydney FC.

The soft ratings results mean’s the match fell well out of the top 20 programs chart and had less free-to-air viewers than other Saturday programs including Bluey and the SBS World News.

By contrast, the Seven networks evening coverage of the Supercars Championship in Sydney achieved a national broadcast audience of 297k (150k metro) on 7mate.

146k on FTA for a marque game for a season opener, which channel 10 has been pumping up..

(i realize this does not count streaming)

i see this as a fail.

88k Metro for the A League Last night..

I wonder if Paramount will be releasing figures..

146k or 102k in Round 1 of the A-League?

88k in Round 2 of the A-League with 15k in Melbourne and 20k in Sydney.

I suspect the Paramount figures are not so great. Matildas rating ok in Sydney at least.

Image

It was a big football day at 10.

An audience of 164,000 were watching the Matildas take on the USA. The biggest audience was the 85,000 watching in Sydney with less than 30,000 in other metro markets and just 5,000 in Adelaide.

The audience for the round two A-League match between Melbourne City and Adelaide was 88,000 with 15,000 in Melbourne, but over 20,000 in Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide. The crowd watching the second successive draw for 10’s Saturday coverage compares to 102,000 last week.

not to sure now, either way, we are seeing praise from soccer fans on the figures..

i myself do not see what is so impressive.

they keep gloating at numbers off Paramount, which there is not even a number to go off.

they're not impressive at all ,
an average of 95K in the metro markets where over 16 million people live ??
& probably half that in the regionals

The 2 major codes could get a larger audience on Kayo

spot on,

they are putting the hopes on Paramount being a hit...
which i do not think it will be...

Soccer Fans did not jump on KAYO so why Paramount,
KAYO had huge discounts since COVID

Round 3 of the A-League and down again in prime time metro markets.

Round 3 of the A-League Men for 10 saw 85,000 metro watching Sydney FC take on Newcastle Jets. The previous metro audiences this year were 88,000 (Round 2) and 102,000 (Round 1).

I honestly can’t see these prime time A-League broadcasts lasting prime time on 10’s primary channel. Imagine the tv ratings once up against the Cricket/BBL.

either do i, and i do not think it will unless it was stated in the tv deal contract.. that they cannot..

i just dont understand, why channel 10 just did not try and go after the BIG BASH Rights.
it was a huge success for them.. and let it go over a few mill per year.

but were happy to spend big bucks on the Melbourne CUP>
which has dipped year on year on year.

Apparently was a good match too. 63,000 metro. Good grief.

End result…. Ten beaten by SBS in prime time shares. How long can this last? :hmm:

ABC 8.6% (13.6%)
Seven 33.3% (44.3%)
Nine 15.7% (24.4%)
