National appeal. Low numbers of uptake in afl states? I only have Foxtel sport due to poor coverage of afl in qld... where Brisbane or Gold Coast games take precedent.

can only ever be to try and boost numbers for FOX in Southern states.

but still this does not make any sense..

if FOX's Big numbers are coming from NRL> would you not pay them more>>

Ever since the deal has been put in place Fox numbers for NRL have trumpt AFL
Rugby League figures have always been bigger on FOX>

Are we saying FOX #NEWS LIMITED > gambled and paid higher for AFL due to the fact
they may get more subscribers in Southern states..

Gee Wiz... what bad business.
which has failed..

I really have no idea but guessing that may be it. Maybe nrl numbers on fox have maxed out. Maybe they get more add dollars for afl as it goes longer. Maybe the programmes associated with their afl programming rate well ... like afl 360?

I would hope to think one of the worlds best business men in Murdoch knows a little about these things? Maybe there are other measures.... maybe that they can fill two channels at once as two games on at same time ... and yes maybe it gets more subscribers in afl states... and afl supporters in general?? Who knows. Maybe they are more concerned as to demographics ....the “who” are watching??? All these things maybe . Maybe none???

I wouldnt say NRL games have maxed out>>

Fox Sports CEO said NRL are still hitting record numbers all this with KAYO SPORTS and Streaming.

NEWS LIMITED have stated revenue made from advertising on FOX is only 10%

I think if you added up all AFL and NRL programming besides the games, they would be very close...

Its a mystery..

Yeah agreed. Nrl does well on fox. Do more rl followers have fox ? Who knows. Be interesting if they continue to value afl more next deal.

that is what we do not exactly know>>

the penetration into NSW and QLD was larger at a point in time.
but update figures are hard to come by..
if anyone could find them it would be interesting..

NRL have 5 exclusive games per week on FOX>

(so you would say it may have more subscribers)

Both codes show all games live as well

3 million viewers lost compared to last season and a 15% drop in tv viewers in NZ.

NRL HIT BY DECLINING BROADCAST VIEWING FIGURES
AUGUST 19, 2019

Changing patterns of viewing, the impact of the code's 'summer from hell' and a series of on field incidents are impacting free-to-air and pay TV audiences for the NRL.

Viewing figures have reportedly dropped by more than three million compared with the same time last year.

Writing in Sydney newspaper The Sunday Telegraph, columnist Danny Weidler stated "people are turning off the game, abandoning rugby league in droves.

"The drop-off has been nothing short of alarming in the past month, during which a series of contentious decisions by referees, the match review committee and the judiciary have driven fans away from the game.

"Audiences dropped significantly in rounds 18, 19 and 20 and by a further 3% last weekend even though there were two blockbuster games featuring the top four teams."

Weidler also pointed out bigger declines in New Zealand, where ratings have fallen by a reported 15% this year, adding "any other business that suffered a sudden downturn of up to 13% would put in place emergency measures to stop the bleeding."
