just an observation & but the metro breakdown there
the gap that drove the AFL's ratings advantage on FTA TV used to almost all come from Melb with its ratings usually 50 to sometimes 100% more then Sydneys for the NRL , thats down to almost nothing now & that big gap to the AFL in the FTA ratings with it.

Interesting :-k

What an incredible flogging that is!!!!!! Rugby League is absolutely on fire in every area. The fumbling game however is faltering. The Big Dill has a fulltime job with the cover-up squad hiding drug scandals, racism scandals, homophobic scandals and various other gutter level atrocities in every direction. Doesn't leave the poor bugger much time to focus on the ugly mess of a game. Sad situation really lololoolololol!!!!

jesus

what appalling numbers for the fumbling game on Sunday , & well.. the entire round
the combined populations of Sydney & Brisbane/GC is over 8.5 million

yet
only 55K people bothered to watch the fumbles & bumbles game from the SCG on FTA TV , maybe half that many on STV in all 3 cities combined , & 35,500 people at the ground , 118K odd sets of eyeballs in total

wonder if this mob are still pushing the line they're taking over ? :-k

On Nine the NRL are having an outstanding season with an aggregate of 12.3 million viewers watching Free to air and BVOD coverage at an average of 535,000 per match, including 1.339m on 9NOW at an average of 58,000 per match. This is slightly ahead - up 2.5% on the 11.993m who watched on FTA over the first 7 rounds of 2023. (an extra FTA game has been broadcast this year).

The highest rating game on Nine for the season to date is the Vegas match with 796,000 average and a reach 1.6865m

Thursday nights average 603,000, including the second highest rating of the season (721,000 for Round 5s Storm/Broncos), this is down from 617,000 in 2023.

Friday nights average 552,000, with the highest rating match being the 609,000 who watched the Good Friday game between the Broncos and Cowboys. This is down from 593,000 in 2023.

Sundays average 477,000, although that comes down to 431,000 if you exclude the seasons highest rating game to date - the Vegas opening game between the Roosters and Broncos. This is up from 439,000 in 2023.

The Average reach for NRL matches is 1.265m to the end of Round 7. Vegas opener drew 1.686m Reach to lead the way, but Storm/Broncos in Round 5 also drew 1.65m.

Thursdays average Reach 1.431m

Fridays average Reach 1.319m

Sundays average Reach 1.123m (1.043m without Vegas)

Foxtel STB ratings remain relatively unknown, with data for just six of 56 games available. Given how close our estimates have been in recent years using known data, we project an average Fox rating of about 247,000 with total viewing of about 14m for the season.

Foxtel BVOD ratings average 264,000 per game with an average reach of 434,000 per match. The highest rating game on FoxBVOD is the opening game betwen the SEagles and Rabbitohs at 443,000 (684,000 reach). Outside of Vegas, Round 7s Broncos/Raiders Saturday night clash with 328,000 average (520,000 reach).

Thursday nights have an average FoxBVOD audience of 236,000 and an average reach of 383,000. Round 5s Storm/Broncos game is the highest drawing Thursday clash on FoxBVOD.

Friday nights have an average FoxBVOD audience of 259,000 and an average reach of 435,000. Round 6s Storm/Bulldogs game is the highest drawing Friday game for the season on FoxBVOD with 318,000 viewers and a reach of 530,000.

Saturdays have an average FoxBVOD audience of 271,000 with an average reach of 436,000. Round 7s Broncos/Raiders game is the highest rating game on Saturday with 328,000.

Sundays have an average FoxBVOD audience of 270,000 with an average reach of 450,000. If you take the Vegas games out of the equation it comes down to an average FoxBVOD audience of 244,000 and an average reach of 413,000

All things, considered if our calculations are right, we project about 40m aggregate viewers for the NRL this season. An outstanding result and is more or less on par with last season. to the end of Round 7.

On Seven, the AFL has had more than 13.183m viewers for the season, this is down from the 15.061m who watched the first 6 rounds of 2023. Even allowing for gaps in the data (mostly low flying single city broadcasts), there are not enough ratings to come anywhere near this.

The highest rating average audience for the season is 713,000 for the Blues/Tigers.
Thursday nights on Seven average 623,000 this season, with an average reach of 1.853m. This is down slightly from 645,000 per match. Round 1s Blues/Tigers was the top rating Thursday with 713,000 (1.893m reach).
Friday nights on Seven average 596,000 this season, with an average reach of 1.842m. This is down from 642,000 in 2023. Round 1s Pies/Swans clash was the highest rating there with 658,000 (2.1m reach).
Saturday nights on Seven average 511,000 this season with an average reach of 1.62m. This is down from 545,000 in 2023. Due to the nature of AFL broadcasts Saturdays typically involve multiple matches shown in the same slot, but Saturda of Round 6 has the highest average there with 628,000 and a reach of 1.763m.
Matches shown on Tasmanian tv average 38,000, about the same as last season.

The average reach over the first seven rounds is 1.599m. The record reach for the season is 2.145m for the Swans/Demons in the Opening Round.

Thursday nights have an average reach of 1.853m with Opening Rounds Swans/Demons reaching 2.145m.
Friday nights have an average reach of 1.682m with the Crows/Bombres round 6 clash reaching 1.820m
Saturdays have an average reach of 1.62m with Round 6s Cats/Lions match reaching 1.763m

Foxtel STB ratings remain somewhat mysterious with just 2 of 54 matches available to us. Our estimates last year were well over the formally released figures forcing us to rethink our modelling, as we were out by almost 12m (about 10% of the total reported ratings by the AFL). This revision reduced the STB:FOXBVOD ratio from 1.26 down to 0.83 for last year. Consequently we believe FoxSTB ratings to be about 11m, at an average of around 203,000 per game – although some data is missing and I believe this estimate to be on the generous side.

The AFL FoxBVOD average for the season is 218,000 with an average reach of 455,000. The Dockers/Blues clash topping the charts at 303,000 in Round 4 (and a reach of 624,000). Some matches have not been reported at this time, but we do have plenty of data to work with.

Thursday nights have a FoxBVOD average of 214,000 and an average reach of 421,000. the highest rating Thursday night game was the Lions/Pies in Round 3 with 245,000 and a reach of 484,000.
Friday nights have a FOXBVOD average of 215,000 and a AVERAGE reach of 423,000. the highes rating Friday night game was Round 3s Dockers/Creows with 230,000 amd a reach of 434,000.
Saturdays have a FoxBVOD average 225,000 and an average reach of 478,000. The Highest rating Saturdayh game is The Dockers/Blues in Round 4.
Sundays have a FoxBVOD average of 209,000 and an average reach of 472,000. The highest rating Sunday game is Round 3ws Tigers/Swans wikth 259,000 ad a reach of 531,000.

In total we estimate the AFL has averaged about 35m in total ratings for the year. this would be up on the 34m last year. However with so much missing data, the accuracy of this is figure questionable at best, and I certainly wouldnt want to head outo the Roar and argue with it.

It's a very underwhelming TV ratings year for the fumbling game. What's doin' fumblers????? RL on the other hand is having a stellar year. Peter The Great will go down as the greatest sports administrator in Australian history. Probably be made Australian of the year soon. Then given a sainthood and a Victoria Cross lololololol!!!!!!!!!

These numbers are a good reason why reach should be totally ignored. The night AFL game is listed at No. 2 with reach of 2.093M and avg. of 466k. Whilst the day game had a reach of 1.958M and avg of 895k and is listed at 3. The day game had almost twice the avg. but less reach. I call BS.
Reach is totally unreliable and should be ignored.

i think its just a typo , a mistake
the afl night game had a reach of 1.093 mill , not 2 plus mill, that makes no sense at all if it isn't a simple typo.

the AFL would be bitterly disappointed with those numbers for their marquee H&A game of the year , the defending premiers & a close contest from go to wow that ended in a draw , what else could the game have delivered , still numbers were down around 6% on last year

the NRL's day game was farcically uncompetitive , over at half time 32-4 to the Roosters ( ended up 60-18)TV channels being changed in their tens of thousands early on ..
so its figure down almost 20% on last year was a lot more easily explained.

the night games in both codes
the interesting figure was the one from Brisbane

in the afl from Canberra ,their GF runner up Lions a pathetic 35K on FTA , maybe half that on STV
the NRL game from Melb with no QLD teams , 78K on FTA & probably a similar numb on STV

the afl taking over QLD

:-k

     :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/ :(/

yea right

I think if you take into account the qld is an ntl town the figures for the lions match aren’t too bad - not great but considering the nrl match did about half. Given the strong popularity and amount of southerners n Brisbane - if you don’t follow the afl team playing you’d like switch to storm - half ish is not too bad in an nrl state.
