NRL looking at QLD's 5th team

wow
this relentless shoring up of the heartland in QLD continues with another partnership similar to the Perth/North Sydney Bears one in the pipeline for QLD's 5th NRL team
The Jets , based In Ipswich but in Partnership with the Newtown Jets who were dumped from the comp in 1983 could be launched & enter the comp within the next 7 years ( I know that article says 3 years ..2028 , but thats not realistic ) they'd play in primarily green in QLD but don the famous Blue & White when playing in NSW
again , a trial match at Henson Park ( Newtowns old ground ) & a premiership match for points at Allianz against most likely Souths

Now we know the fumbles & stumbles has had designs on this part of QLD for some time .. investing heavily in the area
The NRL has said ... nah .... not happening
you're gunna have to find somewhere else

A team out in the west of Brisbane ... Ipswich ..Lockyer Valley to Toowoomba would be enormous
& the final piece in the puzzle for the NRL in QLD , & nail in the coffin for derpball

I don't think it is an either/or proposition. Aussie Rules and Rugby League can exist together as they currently are on the Gold coast and Brisbane I feel.

They won't & don't coexist ... certainly when the CEO of your sport makes ridiculous claims about QLD only being a year or 2 away from becoming a fumbling state
The arrogant AFL has publicly stated its ambitions , the NRL is now starting to fight back
Australia is too small for 2 major football codes
any talk of harmony is naive & delusional

I think they already do coexist - Brisbane and Broncos both doing well - many people support both whilst having a favourite of the two - I think this is where the Suns and Titans will go to as well.

My take on people I know is that they are well over this code war type thing (I think there are still pockets of this - as you hold to this yourself of course) but many more are open to both I believe. =But that's just my opinion - and how I see it with people around me - many who openly support both - which I think opens you up to enjoying more things with more to get into and go to.

they don't , its one or the other for most
TV ratings prove this beyond doubt , it is a very good metric to judge this

300K watch the Broncos on FTA TV & STV combined on the Friday night ( about their 2024 average )
The wions play the following night & 30K watch them on TV in Brisvegas ....
most people in Brisbane are not interested in any way in the wions & would prefer to watch an NRL game between 2 Sydney teams before the wions , or no sport at all
Same for Mongbournians ..& the Storm
this notion people follow both sports is...... nonsense
most people do not

sports that co exist do not carrying on like this
https://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/the-a ... 53e8b5e892

we will rob your house while you're away ??
really ??

the NRL has been putting up with this garbage from the AFL for 42 years ....I could post 100 stories of inflammatory rhetoric from them aimed at the NRL , & insinuating they are on the path to becoming the football code of choice in NRL heartland which they also state quite regularly that is their goal

now thats fine , lets get it on

but anyone suggesting the sports coexist is delusional

5 people don't make much difference fwed
I have shown you that for the vast majority of people.... its one or the other
people have little to no interest in the fumbling game in QLD , or NSW & the ACT ... TV ratings prove it

The fumbling game has gone to great lengths this year to hide how poorly it is infact going outside Vicdmboh
inc its rapidly declining TV ratings

last year you get

foxtel ratings
metro ratings separate from regionals with a 5 city breakdown
regionals

all of them helpful tools in assessing the strength of interest in the fumbling game, certainly in Syd & Brisb

this year all of sudden
we can't get any of the above ..... just one total , no breakdown

hmmmmm, :-k

I wonder why ?

Agree with you re: ratings but that is only one metric. The players playing the game, crowd sizes… etc. seems when afl have good stats they are discounted or explained away in a negative manner. To be fair, I agree the ratings are not great but I suspect if they were good that it would be downplayed in some way - fake numbers, OzTAM in on it etc etc., a conspiracy. I am happy to be balanced and where clear stats are available 1 like fta stats - you came argue with that. But we also can’t make stuff up cause we think it is right - such as crowds are all expats for example or most media coverage is contra - or afl shows such as talkig footy and front bar are only on at respectable hours due media deals.

Anyway - from my experience living on the Gold Coast and working in Brisbane - listening to the local media - there is plenty about the lions and blues game from my experience.

it isn't one metric
its the only metric

if you won't watch something on TV.... for free... you are not interested in it & that is the case for the vast majority of people in half of Australia re the fumbling game ...
The numbers are not fake
They are facts

Theres a reason the Aflol stopped metro city ratings break downs being reported

I would say there are other metrics but do see your point and concede it is a good one - if thery aren't watching on Free To Air then why not. Are they watching on Fox in Brisbane? With more and more people moving to streaming/pay TV - with FTA dying? Just a thought - and I know I only got Fox to watch the AFL as was in QLD - in Victoria I could watch what I liked in the main - particularly being a Pies supporter - now I need Fox to have true freedom to watch the game I want. If we do not have metro breakdowns how do we know the ratings- particularly given the move from FTA to Streaming and Pay Tv makin g comparisons from previous years redundant. I do agree though - if the ratings are low in Brisbane as you say - this is a good reflection on the popularity - I would say that you simply can't discount the other metrics. I also wonder if AFL did get decent ratings in Brisbane then surely you would have to accept these - and what would be considered good ratings that suggest significant enough interest? Truely curious as to this question - what is a pass mark - considering it is a RL dominated town?

very little need for STV in QLD , or NSW / ACT if you're a fumbleball fan
the 4 teams get every game they play covered on FTA ( 46 games in each state ) & another 34 on national coverage .... the ratings for FTA games not involving the locals teams are .. well... pepper pig territory & I'd say that reflects the level of STV subscription by fumbleball fans outside of Vic ... very very low
times are tough economically these days , barely anyone is paying for a service that is not required & you can get for free.
Just because you follow Collingmond means squat

Thats why foxtel fought so hard to end this exclusive local game FTA deal with Ch 7

so no
it doesn't change anything ... the fumbling flim flam has very few fans in QLD , NSW & the ACT
