The push from one of the bids was to to secure the western growth area from the AFL “intrusion”. Looks like they have gone for securing the north of Brisbane which I think is a wise and achievable move. I think dolphins being financially secure and having a history also important factors. Think the dolphins will have a lot of support and be successful quickly. It’s certainly a differing approach to the AFL expansion but quite like the Fortification approach … sure up traditional areas maybe first then look at expanding.

QUOTE>> ANDREW ABDO>> quality of these 3 bids each of them could of qualified and ran an NRL team
so we were spoiled for choice,

we are open minded, this does not necessary mean 18th team would be from QLD

we will look national and NZ before making a decision..

18th team could be in next cycle of tv rights (2023 - 2027) but no decision yet.

https://www.nrl.com/news/2021/10/13/dol ... -nrl-team/
yeah
invite bids etc around mid 2026
do their due diligence & announce the team at the end of 2026 to enter the comp for the 2028 season & the new media rights deal.

Brisb 3.. maybe 2 bids from here
NZ2
Perth

would be the contenders
i think you are pretty much spot on...
and during the Middle of that, NRL will expand Women's.

It is a smart Move,
Securing the North of Brisbane

Moreton Bay region in Sunshine coast and SEQ
it also aligns 3 QLD Feeder Clubs with the Dolphins.

Brisbane West is like Sydney's West, NRL Stronghold.

(i think it really is not much different to the AFL) think about it, there is 1 team in Brisbane... it would be like the AFL adding Port in 1997
Brisbane is under represented, quite alot..

and also Moving Leagues Club to other side where available land is free
increasing capacity of stadium..
colours and designs should be available of the coming weeks.

Also should be noted Dolphins own 11 hectares of land in Redcliffe. $$$

Dolphins: “Membership-wise, we are already through 15,000 financial members, which is a good start for us. That has put us in a really strong position off the field, and from that great things grow.

2nd highest sponsor team in the NRL>

I wouldn't think it was unexpected - the NRL went with the safer option in placing the team there that already had a lot of support - and were established at the lower level I believe (correct me if I am wrong). A bit like putting Norwood from S.A in the AFL - they bring a lot of support and a base with them. Whilst I thought a team in the West would have been the way to go - it was probably a bit more risky whereas Dolphins I believe was much more of a safe bet - as has been shown - which is looking like the way to go - may put a team in Ipswich area on the back of this which I could now see working better than going there to begin with.

Yes agree, it was like NRL adding Norwood to the league.
it is just the Dolphins Asset base is 20 times bigger.

i was watching Dawn of the Dolphins last night and they had vision of Dolphins HQ facilities etc etc
wow it is Huge they have everything and only getting bigger and upgraded.

The Footprint and vision for expansion for NRL for future will be done on how the Dolphins did it.

Ipswich is our heartland: Jones talks up NRL expansion

ARL commissioner Kate Jones says rugby league heartland in the Ipswich corridor west of Brisbane won’t be forsaken when the NRL expands, as two bid team heavyweights call for another team to be added in southeast Queensland.

ones, speaking at the launch of Magic Round, reiterated ARL chairman Peter V’landys' determination to expand the game to 20 teams with a Pasifika side right in the frame to be added when an 18th club is included inside the next four years.

I think Ipswich and Perth. Aussie Rules does have a strong and growing presence out west and would be good to consolidate that strong RL heartland.

AFL presence currently in West Brisbane to Ipswich to Toowoomba is not really much at all..
It is on presence with Sydney's Giant West..

THE NRL is thinking of the Future. (it is a massive corridor with no team) that will explode over the next 20 years.

and AFL have there sights on it (with Springfield HQ for AFL in BRISBANE)
