Cameron Smith... what a legend of the game. Fur melbourne and qld he has been a standout. He also transcends across codes like slatter ... two of the greats. Was good to see him umpiring the Auskick kids at the Hawthorne game and then high diving the Hawthorne team as they ran out looking like a kid in a candy shop. I'm not sure but having been there, was one of his kids playing the Auskick game ?

Also I see a celebration of 10 years since the 2007 grand final. Great to see all the players getting together to celebrate.

Anyway ... how many games for smith ? BOG today surely he had two seasons in him.

I saw him a the G on Friday night. Apparently his kids play Auskick. He looked very happy and proud. Wondered to myself why they weren't playing junior RL. Oh well.

Off topic but following Bea's comment, Im on holiday in Cairns atm and according to my cousin in law and her hubby (long time locals) the AFL following up here now rivals RL. Her hubby played state rep union, still loves the game, but has decided to get his two boys into AFL because of how well run the competitions here are. Union is dying here too, much to his disappointment, and RL and AFL are the strongest sports by quite some margin.

To be fair..1. There isn't a huge junior league in Melbourne for his kids to play in so would be travelling across half the city/state (for aflcrap read: travelling a lot) and probably hard for him to do so and 2. Smith apparently loved his Aussie rules and if so probably wants his kids playing that.

Great to see him at the game but apparently watches a lot of footy anyway . Wonder if we see a smith kid playing afl in a few years?

Smith like most NRL player with brains, loves our great game. They wish they played it, earned real money, played in front of real crowds and atmosphere and played along and against real athlete's.

You know he doesn't mean that NRL get paid fake money? He means their wages generally are not as high as AFL players. Smith would be on a crap load though - not just through his pay at NRL (with real money) but also endorsements. He, like Billy, have traversed the codes and people in Melbourne know who he is. May not all recognize him as they would say Slatter - but definitely know the three superstars.
