PARRAMATTA boss Denis Fitzgerald wants the rugby league conversion scrapped - and he plans to put forward the proposal at next month's NRL conference.

Eels chief wants the conversion scrapped.

The plan is sure to leave league purists astounded.

The kick at goal after a try has been part and parcel of rugby league for 96 years and central to both rugby codes.

But the Eels chief executive believes it is past its use-by date.

Fitzgerald will table his proposal for discussion at the game's annual conference on December 8-9.

He also wants the try to be increased to five points.

"It should be the same amount of points no matter where you score, whether it be under the posts or in the corner," Fitzgerald told The Daily Telegraph.

"Why should a team be penalised for scoring out wide. That's not how games should be decided.

"Tries should be put up to five points. There should be more emphasis on scoring tries rather than which team has the best goalkicker."

Fitzgerald hopes the newer administrators in rugby league will support his plan.

But NRL chief operating officer Graham Annesley believes Fitzgerald's plan will be met with caution from other clubs.

Wow, Mr Fitzgerald certainly has alot of controversial views. Any thoughts on his latest proposal to scrap goals?
