That is not true. I'd say it is a 50/50 split with many expat Victorians now living on the Gold Coast. Don't try and tell me they're interested in rugby league.MAKAVELI wrote:Don't kid yourself Gold Coast is rugby league territory...
Gold Coast looking the goods!
I thought you were a Victorian MAKAVELI? How would you know?MAKAVELI wrote:No they probably aren't. I guess we will have to wait and see.
I see the cut as more 70% RL 20% AFL. And whover gets in there can make their figure grow.
There is no way there is 70% support for RL as the number 1 footy code among Gold Coast Residents. It would be lucky to be 40%.

When I think of where I'd like the AFL to develope, I don't see West Sydney as an option.
I think the Gold Coast would have been fantastic. It is one of the fastest growing areas in Australia and the 6th largest city.
A far superior option for expansion.
Beyond that I can't see any viable alternatives.

Have to disagree somewhat with that Makaveli. Gold Coast is worth pursuing no doubt, but Western Sydney's sheer size surely demands another team, particularly when the Swans are playing so shit and hurting interest in the game.MAKAVELI wrote:When I think of where I'd like the AFL to develope, I don't see West Sydney as an option.

I'm all for it mate and have been for years. It would take some pressure of the Swans as well who are viewed by many as the AFL in NSW. Development work could also be shared between the Swans and West Sydney. It might also make the Swans reassess their status in NSW. Competition is healthy I think in this instance.MAKAVELI wrote:What do u reckon about a West Sydney team beaussie?
I wouldn't have any idea.
In addition, when the Swans aren't doing well or are in rebuilding phase, one would hope the West Sydney team was doing well enough to maintain interest in the code. I also can't wait to attend the first local derby at Telstra Stadium. It's gonna be huge when it finally eventuates.
All that said, I'm also all for the Gold Coast and Canberra getting their own teams as well.
Western Bulldogs > Western Sydney
Kangaroos > Canberra Kangaroos
Hawthorn Hawks > Gold Coast Hawks
Well that's what I'd like to see sooner rather than later.
