The Footy Show last night. roosters destabilised

Post by Harold »

last night they were talking about an email that's destabilised the roosters. it said on the news this mornign that 2SM read it out the other day, but the copy in today's tele had certain details blacked out. does anyone know what the contents of the email were? PM them to me if we're not allowed to post it here, although I can't see why not if it's been broadcast on public radio

There's been a rumour floating around about the Roosters, but i'm not sure if it is related to the email.

Roosters angry at email gossip

By Brad Walter, Steve Mascord and Greg Prichard

April 15, 2005

SIN BIN
Angry Sydney Roosters officials have hit out at a damaging email doing the rounds since Tuesday. Originating from someone who supposedly had dinner with a first-grade player on Monday night, the email outlines a number of alleged problems within the Roosters camp, including a Wayne Carey-Kelli Stevens incident.

But coach Ricky Stuart and chief executive Brian Canavan have investigated the allegations and are confident there is no substance to them. In fact, the entire Roosters squad had dinner together at Cockle Bay on Monday night.

The Roosters were also in camp at a Randwick hotel the night before the Wests Tigers match when - the email said - one of their players was supposed to have been kicked out of a Kings Cross nightclub at 3am after partying with cheerleaders.

The email states: "There is a Wayne Carey/Kelly Stevens incident about to surface". alluding to the former AFL player who had an affair with a teammate's wife.

It also names a first-grade player, saying he is "on his last legs with management and some players" and is bound for the Bulldogs.
Stuart said the club had dismissed the email as unfounded but admitted it did have a damaging effect.

"There's a rumour doing the rounds at the moment ... from these gutless, weak people in the public who want to bring down the organisation of the team, a lot of preparation, a culture," Stuart said.
"That email ... it's a way of getting at something that we have all tried hard to work for with regards to achieving something. We were trying to hose down the effects because everything in this email is ... incorrect information."

CHAMPION coach Ricky Stuart has revealed the Sydney Roosters' grand final rematch preparations have included quashing vicious rumours of internal drama at Bondi Junction.

In a stunning outburst on match eve, Stuart last night angrily attacked disgruntled fans and a Sydney radio station for circulating damaging emails about alleged dissension between certain players and off-field social dramas.

"There are sick people out there who are trying to destabilise our football team," Stuart said. "They are trying to do this by telling lies and spreading innuendo."

The Roosters will need to put aside their troubles when they confront the Bulldogs in a vital game at Telstra Stadium tonight. Both teams have lost their past three matches.

"There's a real poor email doing the rounds at the moment that I'm sure a lot of the media would be aware of," Stuart said.

"It's what small-minded, weak people do to try to bring down an organisation, a team, a lot of preparation, a culture.

"They write these emails and won't sign their name to it ... it's a way of getting at something you're trying to work hard for.

"But they will need more than an unsigned email to show up any holes in our club."

Radio 2SM allowed a caller to go to air this week reading the unsigned email which listed the alleged indiscretions.

Roosters chief executive Brian Canavan last night ruled out legal action against the radio station but has spoken to station executives about the talkback caller's comments.

"We have checked out the email and it is incorrect," Canavan said.

Stuart and his Bulldogs coaching rival Steve Folkes sat at the same table over lunch yesterday.

The pair are friends from Stuart's days at Belmore. But friendships will be tossed out tonight with both clubs desperate to end their losing sequences.

"That's the part that gets very hard as a club," Stuart said.

"You're doing everything you can within, it's what's happening outside (that is damaging)."

Asked about last year's grand final loss to the Bulldogs, Stuart said at yesterday's luncheon: "I'm over it now. This is a new season and that's well and truly behind us."

Leading forwards Adrian Morley (Roosters) and Andrew Ryan (Bulldogs) spoke about their teams' desire for victory tonight.

"We're not far away," Morley said.

"Our attack has been OK but our defence is letting us down. If we can get our defence right, we'll win more games than we lose."

Bulldogs skipper Ryan said of the premiers: "We have to be on our game - we are playing one of the best teams in the competition."

There were suggestions last night the Roosters may make a late change to their starting side. Ned Catic will drop off a five-man Roosters bench.

Bulldogs coach Steve Folkes said his players would be concentrating on their own game tonight.

"When you're not playing well, if you look too hard at the opposition you can lose focus of what you're trying to do," Folkes said.
