new stadium in western sydney. rectangular Stadium sharing

Post by 214Four »

There has been talk of a new rectangular stadium to be built in western sydney or Parramatta or Penrith stadiums to be upgraded of around 30 - 35,000, to accomodate the western Sydney Wanderers in the Summer months and some NRL teams in the winter.
what wont work though is if the government decides to build a multipurpose stadium, the rectangular teams and fans will not tolerate this not because of any hatred to AFL but because the whole reason this debate has started is because Stadium Australia is not ideal to watch in both rectangular format and this is because for some silly reason when it was built the government agreed to make it multipurpose for a measly few million dollars. there is NO decent rectangular stadium in western sydney, the AFL and cricket have skoda, and considering the popularity of the rugby codes and soccer in sydneys west compared to AFL this is obserd.

So i have started this thread to see what peoples thoughts are on locations or ideas for a new stadium or upgrades to other stadiums.

my thoughts...

Currently we have two decent rectangular stadiums in Sydney

SFS - Sydney Roosters, NSW Waratahs, Wests Tigers (afew games), Sydney FC + NRL and Super Rugby and Aleague finals
Stadium Australia - Canterbury Bulldogs, South Sydney, ocassional Sydney swans and GWS + AFL and NRL finals

my two options are
1. build a new stadium at blacktown and get Penrith, Parramatta and Wests tigers to commit to playing each other there plus getting wests to move their sfs games to blacktown and penrith to move afew games there too.

2.build a new stadium at liverpool or glenfield right near the train line and get bulldogs, wests tigers and dragons to play there.
cost $170 - $250 million
both would accomodate the wanderers in the summer.

the hard thing with rationalisation is getting clubs to agree to move from home grounds, the other option is...

upgrade the stadiums that need it. ie

1. upgrade parramatta stadium
*either build an identical or simular 2nd tier at both ends (capacity around 27,000-30,000).
cost around $50 million.

*or pull down eastern stand and build a simple two tier wrap around from the north east and south (with foundations allowing future western stand connection) (capacity of exsisting western stand 8,000. capacity of new northern &eastern & southern stand (22,000 - 27,000) = (total capacity around 30,000 - 35,000)
something simular to WIN stadium in Wollongongs north stand

and have the sides second tier higher up to accomodate more people. a grandstand like this would allow future epansion of the western stand to be identical and also the ends to be increased for a future world cup bid or futute need to capacity to increase.
the north+east+south stand cost around $80 - $100 million
the whole stadium to be built would be around $150 - $170 million

2. upgrade brookvale oval.
upgrade facilities and a new eastern stand.
cost $50 million.

3. upgrade Sydney football stadium
upgrade as advertised by media.

cost $60 million.

total cost for 3 stadiums $210 - $280 million
