Golden Boot Fiasco

Post by seanb58 »

Early Saturday morning Leeds succumbed to Melbourne in the World Club Challenge. Once again Aussie fans saw the contribution Kevin SInfield had against a side from down under. The fact this man was awarded the Golden Boot Award as best player in the world is a travesty. Clearly the judges had been drinking and we're looking through their union jack eyes. To be the best player in the world you must be able to excel at all levels. In Tests or in WCC matches he's about as useful an ejector seat on a helicopter. This isn't the round ball game where the Golden Boot is awarded to highest goal scorer. If that were the case then Darryl Halligan & Hazem El Masri would have closets full of trophies. Cooper Cronk and Cameron Smith showed that they were a class above in their first competitive hit out for the season while Sinfield did what he does best and that is meander around the field untill it's his turn to kick for goal. The Brits need to take a good, hard look at themselves.

The Poms have always been up themselves, trying to promote the ESL as the best competition in the world. I'm sure that if they played a full season against not just the Storm but the other strong NRL sides as well they'd soon think again!

100% true but the real indication at the strength of their game comes from when pommy players who crack the NRL are asked 'what's the difference between the comps?'. They always reply, "There are no easy games. The game is alot tougher here". Just like you can't hide behind your gaol kicking achievements and pretend your the World's best player. I propose a new selction system. Cam Smith, Cooper Cronk & JT play a game of Jenga and the winner will be crowned Golden Boot! More people would appreciate compared to Kevin Sinfield's "win"

Where was GI in all of this? To me he's creating more impact to game results compared to Cam smith, cooper and jon in pretty much every game he plays in...

GI is god's gift to Rugby League. But even he doesn't get the ball if doesn't come from Smith or Cronk. They both control everything in game. Including when GI is allowed to have a run (of course it's different at Souths but when he was at Melbourne and when he's in the QLD & Australia teams this is the rule)
