Channel 7 & 10 Announce Joint Bid for AFL TV Rights

Post by Beaussie »

Just heard on Ten News that Channel 7 & 10 are going to put in a joint bid for the AFL FTA TV rights. No doubt this is the end of Channel 9's involvement as they can't satisfy the AFL's requests with regards to live Friday night AFL in Sydney and Brisbane (due to NRL commitments).

Bye, bye Eddie. I suppose he could always switch to commentating the NRL. There's no way the NRL will be leaving Channel 9 now that Channel 7 & 10 are going for the AFL. Friday night prime time AFL in Sydney and Brisbane. Finally. :D

I hope Channel 7 get Dennis Cometti back. He's got the best football voice I think. No doubt that Bruce will re-appear, oh and what about Sandy Roberts.

Maybe some new blood is required. I just had a thought - the commentary team could be Plugger, Gary Ablett with Warwick Capper as the boundary rider!

Why is that pickles? Long term contract with Channel 9 is it? :?

Croc I don't think Plugger likes the public spotlight all that much. As for Gary Ablett, hmm not sure about him and his past and Warick Capper, well, he can barely put two words together at the best of times.

New blood on the commentary teams would be good though.

Channel 9 treat sports fans with contempt - they can't even be trusted to show a day's Test cricket through till stumps. I'll be glad to see the end of their AFL coverage.

I'm with you G&F. Channel 9's coverage of the AFL in particular in NSW and QLD has been abysmal. The sooner the AFL signs with Channel 7 and 10 the better. Channel 10 has been great for footy in the northern states. Better than even Channel 7 who had the rights to the AFL for over 40 years.

I just hope the AFL sticks to the line that live FNF is a requirement in NSW and QLD on FTA TV. No backing down from that.
