SANFL Round 5 - Tips and Previews

Glenelg vs. South Adelaide @ Glenelg Oval

This match could be anyones, but if the South Adelaide of previous weeks turns up it could get ugly. South Adelaide have finally got a forward in Warren stepping up to the mark and kicking goals with seven against Norwood. South Adelaide cannot aford to get ahead of themselves, but only expect good consistant footy from there boys. If Glenelg are to have any chance of beating the Panthers they will need there main forward in Mitchell to kick a bag of goals, also find a man to do the job on Warren.

Both of the midfields match up quite well and should be a case of who can get the ball long and direct into the forwardlines to the goal kickers. South Adelaide need this win to consolidate there spot in the five, and win three in a row for the first time in a very long period.

South Adelaide should get across the line, but it definately depends which side turns up... South by 24 points.

North Adelaide vs. Port Adelaide Magpies @ Prospect Oval

North had a very unlucky loss to the Double Blues last week but will take alot out of the game, Hargraves still a massive target up forward and kicking goals. Both of these sides have many aspects in which they can improve on and just there plain skill errors is what lost them the close matches against Sturt. Port Adelaide should get a well needed player back in Waterhouse who they dearly missed in the 12 point loss against the reigning premiers.

Port Adelaide are really gonna miss the fact that Evans is out for the season and really do not have a main target up forward, so if they are going to get anywhere as to winning this match someone will have to stand up for them and kick majority of the goals. To add to Port's worries the fact that Hargraves is there will hurt them, they will need to find someone who can hold him off and just shut down the fowardline... as when Hargraves is shut out generally North can go missing.

North should be too strong for Port, but expect a real fightout and North by 14 points.

West Adelaide vs. Sturt @ Broadspectrum Oval

Sturt have been an up and down team so far this season and will really be looking for a drubbing against the Bloods, the Bloods havent been all that impressive and will be looking to get some confidence in what seems a missing midfield. They come up against one of the strongest midfield's in the SANFL right now and if they are to get close to the Double Blues by the final siren they will need to find some sort of way to shut it down, pehaps playing chip footy but they still risk the chance of turn overs.

West Adelaide have manage to trouble the Double Blues in the past and should take that in mind into this match, and need players like Jericho and Wiggins to stand up and show assertiveness. Chambers will be a big worry for them up forward and the crumber in Richardson, they will be hard to stop.

Sturt should run down West but previous results don't show this, Sturt by 35 points.

Central District vs. Woodville West Torrens @ Adelaide Oval

Set to be match of the round and alot of spite between these two as the grand final rematch generally is. The Eagles will not forget the embarrasment in which came out of the 04 grand final and will want some early assertiveness on the dogs this season. The Eagles are showing some of the same form as the had early in the 04 season once again and they should be able to match it with the dogs.

however Schell a main full forward for the Dogs is in wonderful form and will hurt the Eagles, unless they can shut him down they'll continuelly get hurt. This match i feel will be battle of the midfield but the Dogs generally play a looser game of football so once again it will be interesting to see how that tactic works agains the Eagles. In the past when the game has been blown out in the Dogs favour it has been there midfield run which has hurt the Eagles the most, the dogs are once again producing that same brilliant run through the midfield and there's no reason they shouldn't win this match.

Should be alot closer game but it just depends how much the Eagles want pay back... or whether they still fear the Dogs. Central Districts by 25 points.
