Football Australia in crisis after record $15 million loss sparks mass redundancies
Football Australia’s financial records reveal a shocking $15.34 million loss almost double what was posted the previous year.
The record loss comes on the back of the $8.5 million loss for the 2024 financial year (which runs from January to December for FA).
Meaning the black hole has reached $23.84 million in the two years since hosting the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Re: Football Australia in crisis after record $15 million loss
thats the ownership ship structure of the A league teams showing some very wealthy backers behind them. the governing body of football Australia must own anything except a few office leases so its in need of a large bail out from some one
The owners for the teams in the competition are broken down by region:
Auckland FC: Owned by American billionaire Bill Foley (Black Knight Football and Entertainment), who also owns Premier League side AFC Bournemouth.
Adelaide United: Majority-owned and directed by Dutch businessman Cor Adriaanse.
Brisbane Roar: 100% owned by the Indonesian industrial conglomerate, the Bakrie Group.
Central Coast Mariners: Majority-owned by Canberra-based fitness businessman Richard Peil, with former owner Michael Charlesworth retaining a minority stake.
Macarthur FC: Privately owned by a local consortium featuring businessmen Gino Marra, Sam Krslovic, Roy Mammone, and Michael Gerace.
Melbourne City: Owned by the City Football Group (backed by Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Mansour), which also controls Manchester City.
Melbourne Victory: Primarily backed by Advantage Capital Holdings (A-CAP), following the divestment of 777 Partners.
Newcastle Jets: Acquired in 2024 by Maverick Sports Partners, an international sports investment group.
Perth Glory: Owned by Melbourne property developer Ross Pelligra (Pelligra Group).
Sydney FC: Controlled by Alina Traktovenko and husband Scott Barlow, representing the majority ownership stake originally held by David Traktovenko.
Wellington Phoenix: Owned by the Welnix Consortium, spearheaded by APL Chairman Rob Morrison.
Western Sydney Wanderers: Led by prominent businessman Paul Lederer AM.
Western United: Controlled by American real estate mogul Maciek Kaminski and his son Mikhail Kaminski (KAM Sports).

Re: Football Australia in crisis after record $15 million loss
yeah wow a 15mill lost for a very cheaply run tournament>> which FFA makes the owners pay and fund the clubs
that is alot of money when you consider they halved the salary cap also..
not wonder they want to bring in more teams and hopefully get some big coin added

would be interesting to see how profitable the clubs are and will they find a buyer for a new club considering the state of the leagues finances

This is the result of the aleague being punted by Fox Sports. As soon as that happened the code was invisible to most of the sports market in Australia. The fact that Paramount were the only bidder has now doomed them to years of mediocrity. The same has happened to Rugby Union. Both codes are in a big hole of irrelevance.

maybe it needs tax payer money to fund it like the NRL gets?Terry wrote: Sun May 24, 2026 11:14 amThis is the result of the aleague being punted by Fox Sports. Rugby Union is still at least relevant to a degree with CH9 promotion and being on StanTerry wrote: Sun May 24, 2026 11:14 amThis is the result of the aleague being punted by Fox Sports. Re: Football Australia in crisis after record $15 million loss
so the A league lost 15 million, just imagine if they got 600 million for there new club or another 200 million for another team like the NRL did?leeroy*NRL* wrote: Sun May 24, 2026 7:08 pmRugby Union is still at least relevant to a degree with CH9 promotion and being on StanTerry wrote: Sun May 24, 2026 11:14 amThis is the result of the aleague being punted by Fox Sports. the AFL ownes there teams, the NRL has some private ownership for there teams, then they have the tax payer and newcorpes media running the whow, then temu pete claiming how finically well off the NRL is?
if a league had the baciking of the tax payer the NRL had the A league would be a financial power house, well any sporting league would be
