Have to agree with Gerald here

Irrespective of that, Whateley, while acknowledging a need to grow the game in the northern markets, thinks the AFL is missing a trick.
“Where the NRL is lording over the AFL is the way they start their season. I find Vegas is just a big event, I find myself absolutely drawn to it,” Whateley said on AFL 360.
“It’s not about the American market for me, I don’t think they will penetrate that. But good luck to them, because there’s all sorts of ‘Negative Nancies’ who will say you shouldn’t have a go.
“But I did look at that again on the weekend and thought the sense of adventure and ambition actually serves their code really well,” he said of the NRL’s Vegas opener.
“I just think our AFL world holds an arrogance towards the NRL, we are bigger by virtually every measure. And I just think we’re missing a couple of things they’re doing really well: State of Origin, which is undeniable, Opening Round, I think is a huge hit, and they had Magic Round long before we borrowed it and called it Gather Round.
“They’re onto a few things. Instead of just going: ‘It’s all razzmatazz to cover the fact they’re game is no good’. I would caution against that.”

Only have to see the triggering from fumblers all over the net , about this & many other things the NRL is doing atm,
its raw boned jealousy
while we're doing these things for the benefit of our sport , & no doubt its hitting the mark there
the bonus is its getting waaayyyy under the skin of fumblers & their attempts to keep up are often hilarious

Moved to Welly in 2014 and can confirm noone remembers the Aussie Rules flop and pulling out of their 5 year deal to play games here.
Also in terms of media coverage, the NRL gets plenty on TV and radio. Impressive really, a lot of interest in the offices and state of origin from regular Kiwis... probably more up in Auckland but have never lived up there.
You wouldn't even know the AFL existed or the season was on to be honest.

Re: NRL Las Vegas 2025
Knowing that there was a bum sniffing game in Las Vegas and knowing who was sniffing who are two different things. Go ask some Americans and find out for yourself that they don't even know the difference between League Bum sniffing or Union Bum sniffing. It's all the same to them, just different bums to sniff.

Dear oh dear Snip.......you seem to have a weird obsessive curiosity about ...........ummmmmmmm,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,sniffing bums pal. It's very disconcerting Snip. You really need to get some help about that before someone finds you in some public toilet .......ummmmm........sniffing around pal!!!!Skippy Steve wrote: Sat Mar 15, 2025 2:50 pmKnowing that there was a bum sniffing game in Las Vegas and knowing who was sniffing who are two different things.
