Why are the AFL such hypocrits? Slaves to TV. Choosing The tv games just 6 days rounds in advance . I wonder who's idea that was?

Whatever happened to the 'it's all about crowds :blahblah: :blahblah: :blahblah: Gilligan does'nt pander to the networks :(/ :(/ :(/

COVID. get your hand off it. already.
Its a good excuse, though it doesn't seem to have had the same affect on the NRL draw.

would make sense - let's face it - the AFL generally get good crowds anyway - and 2. crowds are limited anyway.

tbh it does not bother me,

for FTA you want to maximise your audience and get the best games.

there can be some dud games on FTA with yearly scheduling.

overall i do perfer game dates and days planned before start of season.

I Agree Fred, it makes a lot of sense. The point is though their hypocritical, hollyer than thou attitude towards the NRL when they used to do similar doing it years ago.

The alternate name for this thread should be simply "the Rugby League thread"

I think the NRL have always had that "little brother" chip with the AFL. Makes sense given the size of the AFL compared to the NRL but yeah - it was pointed out how the NRL did do this by many afl folk when discussing ratings - to maximize rating. Back then the AFL didn't need to do it as doing well without having to and getting the big dollars re: rating anyway - COVID had changed many things and AFL had to throw a few things the TV stations way - night grand final was one I guess - and a good opportunity to try - and this scheduling thing I would imagine. I suspect it will not be ongoing - but who knows.
