So 1 game of SOO (not 3 added together) out rated the AFL Grand Final in 2019?
That is correct,
if you look over the last 10 years for example.
Most Origin games have rated above 3.5mil each.

and around 10-12mill for the series. of 3 games. (that is why it is the greatest Sporting Event in Australia.

However i expect a drop in these ratings this year..

Seems to depend on where you look

But The AFL Grand Final and 1 game of the SOO are Close, The NRL Grand final not so much..

That right If you count all Australians (national ratings)you come 2nd. If you cherry pick results and just count those that live in the capitol cities than you win.

Our GF isnt that far away. The Cowboys/ Broncos won few years back, the Souths GF was number 1 the year before that.

Ok. So with the regionals added in SOO wins, is that because there is a proportionally larger regional population in NSW & Qld?
Eg: Newcastle and Wollongong are regionals?

that is correct,

Northern and southern NSW are big regional areas.

regional's account for around 1.1mill in State of Origin figures.
if you judge figures over the past 10 years.

In overall tally yes,

But i am pretty sure sometimes Tas and W.A regionals are not counted in overnight numbers
and are provided at end of week in reports..

Counted by some people not by others. Most AFL fans would still cling to the believe that there Grand Final was No.1

it still amazes me how so many outlets and journo's do not report regional figures.

when it represents 35% of the population.

especially when the Regional advertising dollar in NSW and QLD
is worth more than SA AND WA

I wonder if it is to do with advertisers being able to target unique markets - as regional population is quite diverse and spread out - whereas a city metro market has a particular confined demographic whilst diverse - is contained and can be targeted.

I thought the AFL Grand Final regularly out rated the NRL grand final? Not that I put much faith in "one off" events as indicators of popularity - I think the sustained ratings over a season show this. Cathy Freeman and the 100 metres is, I think, the highest rating sports event yet hardly indicative of support for running etc.

Rugby League, this year looking like being te exception, not only has the high rating games but also generates the most ratings in a season. This is were your little analogy falls down.

So the AFL Veni, vidi, but failed to conquer!
