Hearing a lot of problems with Rugby in Australia at the moment throughout the media.

From no future tv deal locked in place.
To talk of teams being cut.
To lots of debt.

If Rugby did go under, is there going to be a stack of players switching codes to the NRL?

Is there a rugby union ladies comp?

If rugby league could raid that league as well maybe they will be able to have enough players to field a 5th onwards

That’s if the league ever gets to that point as it was financially unviable to field a 3rd and 4th team

Of course there is a women's union comp.

Well actually there are more first grade womens Rugby League teams than AFL.

There are 10 in the UK alone then adding the ones in Australia too.

How's that though, even women's Rugby League is more international than AFL.

So they will be able to play in the nrlol Australian comp. so they can field at least 4 teams then?

Why not. Unfortunately this can never happen in women's AFL because women overseas have no care for AFL. =D

Well better than expecting the tax payer to foot the bill! Like other rugby codes

They've been going south for years and right now they're in massive trouble. The timing couldn't be worse. Follows low revenue from World Cup year. Folau payout and fiasco. Crowds tanking. Ratings tanking. They've apparently only got $11M in the bank. Probably technically insolvent already. And no broadcast deal for next season.

Yep, no positives anywhere you look. Their only hope is to beg for cash from World Rugby. I suspect they'll give 'em enough to just survive in some form. The only good news is that this crisis will probably blow up the Sanzar comp. Australia now need to start a domestic comp with NZ. Ten teams. All games played at normal times. Home & away. That's their only way for the future.

Heard the Union CEO was on 800k a year. There is part of the problem.
Plus plenty of others would be on huge money.
Administration seems to be full of fat cats. Not just in union, league too.

As I predicted World Rugby are set to bail out RA to the tune of up to $200M over 4 years. That should be enough to see 'em through. Hopefully they'll go to a trans Tasman comp and dump the saffies. The next broadcast deal is still a problem though.

They must have very deep pockets World Rugby.
I bet the Melbourne Rebels are relieved to hear that. Was talk of them getting the axe.

Yeah an Australian NZ comp seems the only way.

AFL has been in too. Plenty of pay cuts and layoffs in all codes.
No sport in immune.

Yep. I'm actually surprised at the AFL's position. They have about the same amount of cash as the NRL to deal with this. They've cut staff, wages & costs in the same way the NRL have done. And they immediately got a $600M bank line of credit to save 'em. Not exactly the super duper position their made out to be.

And yes.......they have an asset. But they bought it for $200M with a $280M bank loan. That's some debt their gonna have at the end of this!!!!!
