and the latest drama with a positive case at essendon threatens the entire season. Essendon will be forced to self isolate 7 other stars which compromises the season big time

I think they will play it. I suspect, they will see how many other games have to be postponed and maybe add an extra week or mid week.

I note that had Conner been playing nrl he wouldn’t have been detected as asymptomatic. Maters was saying on off siders that nrl only test where it is indicated but afl 2 weekly apparently?

See this Covid thing has claimed the televising of rl state comps. 9 no longer going to show them. Obviously part of the sweetener to the fta deal to go through.

On that, wonder what the afl gave up. Live matches in to qld and nsw would have been one I thought but haven’t seen anything on it.

Optus has a bigger capacity but the Gabba is looking more and more likely.

NSW is now as unlikely as VIC

It will not be at the mcg. Good opportunity to take it interstate. GABBA seems to be the front runner. Maybe they’ll wait to see who ends up in the last two weeks of finals. Big thing will be allowed crowd numbers.

I see QLD has put in a bid, if money is behind this bid, that is a disgrace.

QLD saved the AFL SEASON pretty much..

AFL should no questions ask be giving QLD the GRAND FINAL> if not played at the MCG>

OPTUS STADIUM is the only other option i would say.

I’m still hopeful Sydney is in with a chance with the biggest stadium capacity outside of Melbourne. Our COVID-19 numbers are still very low too considering the size of our population in NSW and sport continues each weekend from junior sports to the professional codes eg: NRL, A-League, Rugby and the AFL until recently.

Would love to go to a AFL GF in my home city, even if my team was not involved. Would be huge for Sydney if the Giants make it again and ANZ Stadium was to be the GF venue.

from a growing the game point of view and exposure, Sydney would 100% be a lock.

i am just not sure if crowds will be available to capacity in just over 2 months time..

rugby league games are still at 25% capacity lock out.
and this was put in place before the cases starting coming back
from Mexico to Sydney.

Still plenty of time before they will lock it in though

hearing that if QLD are to host AFL FINALS Series, grounds will not be at aloud more than 50% capacity..

where as PERTH may be looking at 100%

a little over a month away...

AFL announced today a suspected $400 million Revenue loss for 2020

I wonder what it will hit once you add in the 18 clubs

the Soft Cap is also expected to be cut by $3 Million for 2021

PVL stated last night that if the NRL can play all its remaining games including SOO

they will come out on top financially over every sporting code in Australia.

the question is: by opinion which code AFL or NRL will come out of this financially better
and by how much... obviously we want know the real facts until next year..

AFL has been receiving huge cash over the past 10 years with also spending huge outlays
could this be its downfall.

NRL's clubs asset train the leagues clubs have been shut down for long periods and limited the cash flows.

interesting times.

Yes the real facts and the false facts...sounds like a trump speech on the ratings.

I think the AFL knocking back $800,000 (I know they don’t get it all) indicates that they are not overly worried about money...or a least losing it.

We can say what about their reduction in staff, but they have indicted For some time that they thought there was a lot of “fat” at the clubs and in admin.

May just have taken the opportunity.

Although they copped a bit at the start of COVID, I believe they have managed Better than the other codes. Being nearly national and not being international has helped....and may help in the future too.
