Is this for real?

Falou to play for Tongo in Rugby League World Cup? Seriously.. Hasn’t he represented Australia for Rugby League and Rugby Union ??? Surely, even our Rugby League folk here must see this as a joke !

He is of Tongan heritage and was told he couldn't play in the NRL either.
But Tongan RL is not part of the NRL. So he should be allowed to play.

Unlike AFL, Rugby League is more than one organization and in more than 1 country.

Is up to the RLIF (Rugby League International Federation), not the NRL.

I read the nrl so have a say ... that they do play a role in administrating the rlwc?

But I just don’t see how you can represent Australia.... be an Australian and play for another country without even moving to the country and playing in the local league and becoming Tongan national ?

That’s the Tongan last nrlolwc squad of https://www.sportingnews.com/au/league/ ... ibsus2k1p4

It won’t let me copy and paste the names individually on my phone but the squad is packed with nrl players!
Why not bump the few locals off the team and fill it with more nrl players

Jealousy rampant in this thread . & the lies once again .
You can't just pick your fave colour or choose whatever country you like as you have often claimed & many times been shown up to be full of shit
There's heritage rules in international RL .
Get a clue before you post .

Gaslighting may be rampant.

Aspergers however... well maybe. when he says you pick your favourite colour and choose a country this is him illustrating a point... it is not literal. Now Notaleaguefan .... you know crapper has trouble or difficulty with this... please try and not use colloquialism or extremes to illustrate a point

Okay so what Notaleaguefan fan is saying is that the selection of players in national teams with little link to that country does really make a mockery of it being a World Cup. Basically they are filling teams with players that really shouldn’t be playing for that country. Me, I can see the merit in that it helps grow the game in those countries and makes those countries more competitive . I do think having a player like Falau who represemted Australia in two sports, is not Tongan, and basically is doing so to give the finger to the nrl doesn’t pass the pub test.

Happens in every sport. Was an Australian soccer player called Tony Dorigo who changed and played for the English national side years ago.

Half the Wallabies are of Islander heritage.

Things like this will never be a problem in AFL though. As only one country plays your sport.

Yeah and look at the English cricket team. But usually I thought there was a qualification period for such things. That they lived there for a while at least? Or before playing at that level they chose which country they wanted to represent .

He is eligible for Tonga by birth. He lives in Australia, chose .He's been told he cant play for Australia. So he's pretty short on options. what part can't you understand? or are you having a Link moment???

Players play for different nations all the time when the situation requires, Kepler Wessels , Yana Dockic etc.

Okay I didn’t realise he was born in Tonga. Are you sure about this? I am pretty sure he was born in Australia.

Just checked he was born in Monti NSW

Okay now that’s out of the way.

Yes players do play for countries other than place of birth or where they grow up... they do change however isn’t there usually a process for this to happen where they live in the country for a bit and qualify or where they can choose re: who they decide to represent (first time) then have to stick to that. English born cricketers growing up in Australia etc. seems contrived to me.

The fumblers just don't understand. They never have had and never will have this problem. That is the misfortune of having a one dimensional domestic only game.

The poor buggers just aren't qualified to comment on SOO or international RL. It sends 'em nuts!!!!!

Well Chump
The VFL/AFL started SOO and the NSWRL/ARL/NRL copied like they have with so many other things started by Australian rules, finals, commission etc.

The first international games of Australian rules were played in Victoria in 1888 against an English touring side.
The VFL SOO stopped when it became obvious fans preferred the normal season games than “event” football. Just the reverse than what happens with the NRL.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.
Rugby league, Australias most popular game in some of North Eastern Australia.

You have to remember this was his idea. I don't think Tonga want him either.

South African - played for Australia - then South Africa.

many people represent two countries. Contrived :hmm: ??? I guess the word international would be confusing for you'se people :(/
