Fumbler gets upset over the word southern .
Lol
The truth really upsets the southern hicks .
Afl is a southern game
Very Popular in the southern states .
Was made in a SOUTHERN state
NT is Not a State .its a territory with a small population .
WA is a big state .
Yet over 90 % of the population live in the SOUTHwest corner .
So AFL is the southern game .popular in VIC SA TAS WA ..SOUTH WEST corner
In the northern states where the majority of the population live in this country .
RL is king.
It's very simple ..yet apparently facts upset some .
Lol ..as usual
Okay. Let’s pick this apart.

Afl is the dominant sport in WA ... all of it.

Afl is the dominant sport in the NT ... whether it is a state or not is irrelevant .... it’s still the dominant sport in that northern part of the country .

Aussie Rules has clubs and teams right across the country ... as shown by the clubs listed. It is played in significant numbers in qld and nsw.

NSW is not completely rl. Australian Rules is the dominant sport in many parts, and on equal footing in others.

It may serve the insecurities of some nrl zealots to define AFL as only being a Southern sport as an attempt to minimise the position Australian Rules have in this country but the reality is it is played all over the country and is Australia’s biggest sporting organisation for a reason. The need to try and belittle and minimise Australian Rules shows just how insecure and defensive some nrl folk are. Thank god rl have soo

Sydney Swans are the most popular football club in Sydney and have been for a while.
Rugby League is the most popular code in Sydney and has been for many decades.
The most popular NRL clubs are not in Sydney.
Australian Rules dominates west of the Barrassi line and that line is moving slowly but surely eastward, with some islands of popularity in previously rugby league territory and those islands will grow.
Rugby league is the national game of PNG and Australian Rules is the national game of Nauru. Australian Rules is growing in PNG with several PNG players in Queensland Leagues, in Nauru Rugby League isn’t.
Yes, New rugby league Stadiums are being built in Sydney, unless they reduce the capacity greatly they will rarely be filled, just as the ones they are replacing struggled.
And as for being a dominant code in several countries? New Guinea and a few island nations perhaps.
The below table has the attendance figures for the top rugby league competitions based on complete rounds closest to 29-30 June. I chose date this because the Attendance for the next AFL round (last weekend) was very good even with 3 of the normally low attracting games (GWS, Suns and Roos in tasty).
I may have been generous with Elite 1 got the totals from a few French regional sources, if any one has the exact figures for round16 please post

League———- Attendance
Super league 60842
NRL———— 95266
Championship 19991
Elite 1 France 6000
Total 182099
AFL 27888

And these figures are for the 4 top rugby leagues in the world.
Australian Rules is not a dominant sport world wide but neither is league, to argue otherwise is Not Really Logical.

BTW another great crowd tonight, put on a good game and they will come.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.
Rugby league, Australias most popular game in some of North Eastern Australia.

Tasty is really Tassy, my IOS 12 does odd things here, don’t know why, perhaps there is a loose nut behind the keyboard.

I once saw their rep team play, they play a very rugged game,
I am a little surprised that only 1 has been ever recruited to the AFL.
In Nauru Australian Rules is a big fish in a very, very small, pond is not exactly the right word I’m looking for but you know what I mean.
The senior league grand final attracts 30% of their population, and yes they do have a small population.
Many children are named after AFL players
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.

So Australian Rules football is the major sport in Nauru .... so it’s not technically confined to 1 country? It has expanded to Nauru. So can Rl claim to be the biggest sport in two countries ?

Using Nauru, a country with a population of about 10,000, to boast about international game is so lame!

AngloFL growth outside of the south is a myth. Read Anglofl correspondent Vince Rugeri in SMH. Participation, crowd numbers fake. Look at TV ratings - interest minimal.

Yeah the SMH is nice and impartial when it comes to Aussie Rules.....
They're even more bitter and insecure about our sport than you lot.
Australian Football has grown plenty up there. Not to be a contender, but it has definitely grown and has a presence in both states, including areas where it's the preferred code.

If only it could grow to be as big and as relevant as Rugby is in Vic, that's the dream.
Never realised quite how much hate there was for AFL from our Northern friends.

Where this side of the Beetson line is Anglofl the preferred sport? Nowhere!
250,000 watching RL in melbourne last night - white swan retirees would love to do those numbers in Sydney.

Yeah comparing origin to club games is another good one.

I bet the Storm would love to do those numbers in Melbourne too.

If you meant Barassi line, you realise where that is?

few points i like to raise>>

NAURU has a population of 13k lol
there are not even worth mentioning >>

PNG has a population of 8.3mill

regards to AFL being popular in parts of Sydney or NSW over other sports.. No way in the world..

yes they have a following in the north shore of sydney and parts of the east..

But Union, League and Cricket are all stronger than AFL in these Areas.

(also with the Origin figure in Melbourne for the 250k that watched.
Yes Storm would like to achieve this figure>
Quite Frankly Storms figures have been quite $hit..
i like to see there Average when compared with Swans

but AFL only ever achieve any like this figure come G.F day.. in Sydney..

Rugby league are able to achieve this figure at least 4 times a year.

It's the same old afl view . Everything is compared to their domestic comp because that's all they have .
Insular myopic view of the sporting landscape in Aust.
