Oh Jesus .
It's Comedy Central reading that
The word international & Aflol should not be in the same sentence unless it's a comedy show

Have a read of the first few sentences .

From the snow-covered fields of Scotland to the foot of a famous wartime airport in Germany, the West Coast Eagles are slowly taking over the world.

A look by The Weekend West into the Eagles’ international database has uncovered teams playing in the club’s blue and gold in 15 countries across the globe, including Papua New Guinea, Croatia, the US, France and Sweden.

Scotland’s West Lothian Eagles founder Mikey Allan epitomises the growing global devotion to the AFL’s reigning premiers and the game itself.

Yes for sure but players know that going in. It’s a domestic sport and our own sport. We don’t need approval from people overseas to be seen as okay or relevant.
Yeah you do - hence failed China experiment.

Wasn’t that a sponsorship thing? Anyway, the afl may or may not care... supporters generally don’t. But like aflx. Universally panned by supporters.

this hurts the 2 rugby codes all the time,

player talent going to union and rugby league overseas..

NRL have over 100 players playing in U.K and France in Div 1 and 2 in the English super league.
Soccer has the same issue, perhaps worse because of more options.

If the proposed USA league sides join the English championship and league 1, NRL will lose a few more.

Some ex AFL players have done very nicely in the NFL but only after their careers ended here.

Again I don’t think being professionally limited to Australia is limiting at all.
Southern Hemisphere rugby could face an even bigger threat to its player stocks in the near future as Japan looks at introducing a new 12-team professional league in 2021.

This will surely set the alarm bells ringing in New Zealand, Australia and South Africa, which are already locked in a struggle to keep their best players at home as lucrative contracts in Europe and elsewhere abound.

Salaries could be worth up to US$1 million in the proposed competition, which is being pushed by JRFU vice-president Katsuyuki Kiyomiya. It is intended to kick off in 2021 and run from September to February.

The Sunwolves Super Rugby franchise may also find a new home in the professional league. The 12 teams would be based in major cities around the country, making use of major stadiums involved in staging this year’s World Cup.

A preparatory tournament with six to eight teams is planned for next year. The Sunwolves will have played their final season of Super Rugby by then and may well be included. So far, eight of the Top League clubs have voted in favor of the concept, with the remainder expected to follow suit.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.

Currently 37 players of Aboriginal descent listed playing In the AFL, I thought there would be more.
125 additional players either born overseas or have at least one parent born overseas, including 3 born in England.
So about 160 current players not from (in some cases) fully English backgrounds in the AFL, more than I expected.
That’s enough to field 7 teams.
Not all players will make the grade of course.
There are currently 792 players on the AFL lists.
Perhaps it should be referred to as partly anglofl.
If I get the time, I may check, I am sure that there would be many more players with at least 2 of 4 grandparents born elsewhere other than England or Australia.

About 50% of Australians have a parent born overseas. Using your numbers only 15% of anglofl players fit into this category. Most would be from uk. That's why it is the anglofl.

Where did you get that figure as I read an article that said 82 or something like that.

72 players are on AFL club lists, an historic record.
Aboriginal football players make up 10% of the AFL competition, another historic record.

Areas not so good:

FL clubs employ around 1,300 employees [2]. Out of these

only 5 are Aboriginal,
only one Aboriginal person is a club executive,
none are on club boards, and
only 2 out of the 150 coaches are Aboriginal.

Fred, I did think there was significantly more, I did a slow count from the AFL records, yours is more like I expected, thanks.

Anglofilly.
Surprisingly few had parents (1 or both) born in England.

That’s enough non anglos to field 8 teams and a bit.
