Rugby League has one pretend Canadian professional side, the Toronto FIFO’s, no Canadian or North American Players, are based in England and the majority owner is Australian. Rugby League in Canada is miniscule, so is Australian Rules, but a cursory look indicates that there besides the “pretend” team, Australian Rules and Rugby League have pretty similar support.

And we all know that Australian Rules is not international, does not need to be, more popular than the 3 top international Rugby leagues and has the most popular football club in Australia’s rugby home land, and we get to keep our best players, what more could you ask for? Well if you follow Rugby League A lot.

Professional sport doesnt mean everyone from Timbuktu has to play for the local timbuktu footy club does it.

Really, you could look at most epl sides and not find a single pom let alone someone from Manchester playing for Manchester.

Small time thinking, you must be a closet Rugby League fan from the North of England.

Both the RFL and Super League have stated publicly that Toronto need to meet additional criteria before they get promoted to Super League. Winning the Final is not the only criteria.

Toronto Wolfpack will be promoted to Super League if they win Saturday’s Championship Grand Final.

A Super League clubs meeting took place on Wednesday where it was confirmed the Wolfpack will be admitted to the top flight if they earn promotion.

Super League chief executive Robert Elstone had said in a media briefing last month they were still seeking assurances from the RFL regarding Toronto, just a few weeks before the Grand Final.

However, clubs were informed today that those assurances had been provided and they, as well as Featherstone, will be welcomed to the competition if they are promoted.

If the Wolfpack are victorious on Saturday they will not take the central distribution money they are entitled to. That will be instead be split between the other 11 clubs, with Super League keeping some to assist with their own endeavours.

An official statement is expected from Super League imminently.”

So I was a day late on something that has not been officially announced, that I was right before it was unofficially announced.. you grab anything you can....if it makes you feel better

My take on it is this, they were always going to be allowed into the SL and they have used this bs to drum up interest, afterall, last year they made the million pound game and nothing was said.

Ah the jealously of the AFL fan knowing his sport will never have international support like other football codes.

Canada has will soon have two professional clubs yet somehow AFL is just as popular there despite having
-no evidence of crowds turning up to AFL games.
-no media coverage
-no investors
-no proper national teams

Is exactly the same with AFL vs RL with support in New Zealand, England, PNG, and pretty much every other country.
AFL just can't be marketed in other countries. Just no interest.
