Still waiting for evidence where AFLw was touted as the invention of women's sport too.

Oh my indeed
Wow, what a mammoth deflection. Can’t get away from aflx fast enough can you?

Let’s get back on topic. Common nlol, join us, we’re dead right here. Aflx has been a mammoth flopsy. Other sports that create alternative versions seem to have succeeded with ease and without the promo involving circus clowns and all
20/20 cricket - rugby league 7s and 9s tournaments, rugby union. But alas it appears the Afl has well and truly failed.

Why?

Game was Played in Auckland with 15 Australian sides

which still got big crowds first few years before 25k turned up last year.

the Tournament was not even tested on australian shores.
being that all the teams are from here, i hold no doubt it would of been a big.

the NRL have decided to concentrate on International scene as they see more potential.
in this format...to grow the game.

Rugby forms have had a history of different formats, so has cricket. I think their fans are therefore more open to a change in format, hence 20 20 was adopted after a few years, and 7's and 9's has had some traction. Remember, one-day cricket had huge opposition when it was first introduced, yet 20 20 was received easier because the fan base was more open to change.

Other games like soccer, hockey, gridiron etc have not dabbled in different formats at all, and may find it very difficult to introduce a compact version.

I think AFL house feel some pressure to introduce a smaller format because 3 of the 4 sports which they compete with in Australia have successfully done it. Furthermore they will always find it difficult to export AFL given 36 players are required with a very large field.

AFLx will fail, but I understand why they are trying

good post.

true points and all valid..

in my opinion, i find the shorter formats in the rugby codes ok for just a one off event and nothing more.

cricket has worked as they had to evolve and get different audiences..

The AFL new format i get like yourself what they are doing, but from the get go
seems like a waste of time and money..

this is going to go no where internationally,

Cricket warranted a shorter format given how long test match cricket takes. Once one-day cricket again became a little long-winded after a few decades so a shorter version again was a reasonable format change. Having said that it appears 20 20 is also waning compared to previous years.

Most sports are short enough and dont really warrant a cut-down version. An indoor format or a short tournament version is probably all that's required to appeal to some..

AFL fans tend to be traditionalists. Most oppose rule changes, dont like Guernsey changes, and wont even support the grand final to be played in a TV friendly time slot. A scaled down version of the game wont gain acceptance for many years if at all.

The AFL's desperation to create a version they can market overseas is leading them to come up with some ridiculous ideas, just to get some local interest. If the locals wont follow AFLx what hope does it have in countries who have never heard of the AFL?

Declining crowds meaning declining interest

Says the fan of a game that is only successfull internationaly thanks to union!

The crowds or ratings aren’t anything greater than a nrlolol H&A game & only competitive international sides are NZ and Australia! Who play and beat up minnow nations! That’s including current and past nrlol players playing for those minnow nations thanks to piss weak regulations

they are derivatives of the same game and also popular in the same countries. Suggesting these are coincidences is absurd

Lol so according to the bizarro logic of our resident nutters
gridiron is only popular because of UNION .
Lots of football sports around the world have taken ideas & rules off RU then altered them to suit their game .
Even AFL originally .
So please stop with the stupid stupid posts .
RU & Rl are different games .different rules .have been for over a century .

WTF?

Do you honestly believe RL has expanded independently to RU?

Yeah that makes great sense...could you be any dumber?

The games of RU and RL are so similar, and have so many similar skills and attributes, they appeal to similar people. RL has found some success in NZ because RU is popular in NZ. Kiwi's play and follow a sport where tackling, tries, passing backwards, and exploding through defensive lines is a requirement. It's only logical that RL will also appeal to some of them as the skills are similar.

20 20 cricket isnt test cricket, yet the fans of 20 20 more often than not also follow test cricket. Has 20 20 expanded anywhere where test cricket is not already popular?

Tell me is pepsi only popular because of Coke .

Similarities but two different drinks .

Just stop with the rot.
RL is different ..a different sport different rules
Yet once again you keep arguing .

Do you think people who drink coke will buy pepsi if coke isnt available?

They are both rugby codes with a small number of different rules. They are about as close as 20 20 and test cricket. Different rules but the same basics apply. One makes the other far more likely to succeed.

Which is why RL is popular in nations where RU is popular.
