Re: AFLX !
The Herald Sun reports this morning that the 2019 AFLX competition will consist of 4 representative teams consisting of 10 players each, with lists to be drawn from a pool of 100 players “hand-picked” by the league.
One of the sides, to be captained by Eddie Betts, is to be an all-Indigenous side called, would you believe, “Team Skill.”
Another side, captained by Patrick Dangerfield, will be called “Team Speed.” You can’t help but think that the Indigenous side was originally supposed to have the Speed name until someone got tapped on the shoulder at the extreme last minute. Still, “Skill”. The kind of loose, go-to terminology you hear from fringe commentators to describe all Indigenous players because it’s word-substituted for “black” in their heads.
What the other two sides will be called is not yet known, but the mind boggles. Team Tall? Team Handball? Team Top Bloke But A Dog On The Piss? Pepsi Presents Team Four? Who bloody knows.
The one-day four-team AFLX tournament is scheduled for Friday, February 22nd at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium. Like this year, the tournament will feature a round-robin tournament, before an arbitrary Grand Final to determine an ultimate “winner.”

Re: AFLX !
The AFL is doubling down on its attempt to create a preseason sensation — revealing next year’s AFLX tournament will be unlike anything we’ve ever seen.
The shortened version of the game has drawn criticism from some parts since its introduction last year but will be revamped under a new format inspired by the league’s new sponsorship deal with Marvel.
The AFL yesterday revealed four hand-picked teams — the Bolts, Flyers, Rampage and Deadlys — would play at an event at Marvel Stadium on February 22.
They will be captained by star players Patrick Dangerfield, Nat Fyfe, Jack Riewoldt and Eddie Betts, who inspired the names.
“Each team has been named to match up with a standout attribute of its captain, with Dangerfield to lead the Bolts due to his explosive pace, Fyfe to captain the Flyers because of his marking strength and Riewoldt to steer the Rampage due to his capacity to break tackles and go hard in the air,” AFL.com.au reported. “Betts’ side will be called the Deadlys and be an all-indigenous line-up.”
The four captains will choose their teams in a live draft, drawing from a pool of 100 players from around the league that will be made available.

Re: AFLX !
The League on Sunday released details on their plans for the Marvel Stadium event on February 22, confirming AFL.com.au's report from last month that Adelaide's Eddie Betts, Geelong's Patrick Dangerfield, Fremantle's Nat Fyfe and Richmond's Jack Riewoldt will captain and hand-pick the teams.
Whose team are you on?
Join our four Superhero Captains at #AFLX 2019. Friday February 22, Marvel Stadium.
Each team has been named to match up with a standout attribute of its captain, with Dangerfield to lead the Bolts due to his explosive pace, Fyfe to captain the Flyers because of his marking strength and Riewoldt to steer the Rampage due to his capacity to break tackles and go hard in the air.
There will be a live draft event ahead of the AFLX competition where the four captains will choose their team from the 100 players made available for the games.
The captains can't choose more than four players from a single AFL club for their team, with each line-up to consist of 14 players, with eight on the field and six on the bench.
The matches will be two 10-minute halves, with 10-point super goals also returning after being an element of this year's inaugural AFLX contests.
A Grand Final will finish the night's games between the top two ranked teams.

Re: AFLX !
what i am finding very very strange about all this AFLX exhibition show is >>
the whole big thing about not having AFL STATE OF ORIGIN
was because of player welfare, clubs not wanting to risk players. etc etc etc...
Now they persist with this AFLX
and increase the player power of talent it as well.
with 4 of the biggest names in the game captains of the 4 new teams..
to select the rest of the biggest names in the game
(now was it)
is the AFL to embarrassed to to do STATE OF ORIGIN

Re: AFLX !
The AFL is set to splash the cash to land big names for superhero themed AFLX in February
The AFL is set to fork out some big dollars to secure some of the biggest names in the game to play in February’s second AFLX series.
The Herald Sun has reported that players will collect at least $5,000 and up to $20,000, for the one-day tournament that will cost more than $300,000 in total player payments.

Re: AFLX !
It's rubbish. Year 1 got no crowds, no tv ratings and hard core fumble fans lampooning it. It was supposed to be the game that took fumbleball to the world.
It's since shrunk from cities in Aus to the city of fumble fandome aka Bleakbourne in a one day tournament lololololololololololol.
This will be the last year of this version of the mess.
Gilty will of course hail it as a great success. But it won't come near to the success of the 'hush money' campaign. That's gotta be the greatest initiative of all time!!!!! Why aren't more people quizzing Gilty on this? Oh.....that's right.....it's the Bleakbourne press lolololololol.
Yep. AFL......the game with morals and standards.........when it suits.......and when it don't....hide it!!!!!!
Well done Gilty!!!!!!
