Will they be playing AFLX this year? Or is this just the latest experiment to go Xtinct due to lack of interest.

They will try it again. They have apparently changed the rules.

AFLX was poorly received right from the start when it was obvious that goal scoring lacked any challenge. The ease at which goals were snapped from the centre of a rectangular field began to look silly. Why this was not considered when the game was developed I cannot understand. The dimensions of rectangular playing fields are tiny compared to Australian rules grounds. ( 135 to 185 m)
Some size comparisons - soccer 120 m, rugby union 100 m, gridiron 100 yards
There is no X Factor, no wow factor and no future for AFLX in its present form, it will need a few modifications to survive.
On a positive note AFL 9s was developed more thoroughly and the adaptated game for rectangular fields has many participants.
I would like to see more international rules football to fill the void left by the demise of
AFLX.

Nailed it on AFLX, wasn't well done at all.

Did you really enjoy the last couple of International Rules series though?
I thought it had faded into insignificance by the end.

It is insignificant .
But Aflol has nothing internationally so why not talk up the bastardised version of two games .
It gives the insular fans something to feelgood about .

"Bastardised" is an interesting choice of word from a RL fan.

l agree with you Cats Steve the series against the Irish did fade off but it did have some good moments, managed to attract some reasonable crowds.
International rules is quite a quirky hybrid definitely not for everyone, but better than AFL fix.

the fact is When a code concentrates on the International scene
it looses significance in the H&A Season>>

minds wander, media is spread, attendances and tv figures are also spread..
some think NlolRL never ever got through his head.

so the AFL cannot have it both ways..

that it why they mainly concentrate 99.999% on H&A Season

where as the NRL do not

(AFLX will be back) what will they do... who knows)

What Each code has to offer>>>

RUGBY LEAGUE

NRL H&A Season
Nines's
SOO
World Clubs Challenge
INTERNATIONALS
ALL STARS concepts
4 NATIONS
World Cups>>

(throw in the soon to be announced Pacific CUP and ASHES / Kangeroos Tours.

where as AFL

H&A Season>>

more recently AFLX which flopped so hard..

& the only comparison that can be made between the codes is the Fri night game .
Shows the very narrow insular view of the world some fumblers have .

tell me about it, totally looked past all other concepts rugby league had to offer>>

(the Fumbler on the bus goes round & round, round and round)

Back to AFLX ( we await the grand plan by H.Q )

RL World Cup is a total embarrassment, kangaroos flogging minnow island communities, I am not impressed, and also who cares about RL nines on TV ?
Not all concepts on your RL list are winners.

Here is a more complete afl list
Home and away round.
All Stars vs big V, popular old timers match
Ireland Vs Australia international rules football test
Pre season cup challenge ( not a fan )
Pre season woman's football Aflw, a work in progress.
AFLX no further comment !

So there you have it, I may have missed something but I am in no way implying that all of these concepts have been embraced on a popular level.
