The "homesick factor" is particularly a QLD thing. The players, kids in particular, just don't wanna move to GC or Brisbane. The 'footballing states' don't have the same issue to the same extent. Sydney may not care about football but the city is relevant so player retention isn't an issue there either.
Never realised quite how much hate there was for AFL from our Northern friends.

Re: GWS / SUNS >> How much more dollars
well the possibilities in Australia for NRL are two heartland states or the storm who are almost a guaranteed premiership. If you had clubs in Adelaide and perth you may see a different storyleeroy*NRL* wrote: ↑Wed Aug 08, 2018 12:48 pmyes ok,NlolRL wrote: ↑Wed Aug 08, 2018 12:46 pmit's not home sickness (generally), it's preference of living in the state you grew up inleeroy*NRL* wrote: ↑Wed Aug 08, 2018 12:20 pmi dont understand why these players are home sick.. when getting paid so much money...

Why then did they have COLA .
Why then do they still have COLA under another name .
Or is that extra $$$$$ just to ensure that the rigged comp stays rigged

Re: GWS / SUNS >> How much more dollars
Are you going to educate me on AFL player retention? Do you actually know anything about your own game or do you just spit useless dribble about AFL?.
Picturing a 50yo troll living at Mum's with you, eating cheetos off your chest. It's phenomenal how confident some can be about something they know nothing about.
They had COLA for the genuine reason of Sydney being more expensive and Sydney needing more help, absolutely. Sydney abused it to get Franklin.
Getting stars to stay there or go there these days just isn't an issue at all.

Re: GWS / SUNS >> How much more dollars
I don't know why I'm buying into this. There really is no retention issue there at Sydney whatsoever. Quite the opposite if anything. I don't have the Melb-Syd rivalry thing inside me. It's a big, bright place and players are happy to go live there. Seems more of a tick to the place anyway than 'fighting words'.
Let's see if you'll answer a genuine query...
Do the Storm have an issue issue in this regard? Retention/being a destination. Or any of the other interstate teams? Canberra seems particularly unappealing for mine.
Much like you with AFL, I DON'T know the answers so I'll ask instead.
Which are the least desirable Australian NRL clubs to be drafted to for these reasons?

Re: GWS / SUNS >> How much more dollars
The NRL dont have a draft, only a salary cap. I'd suggest this is partly why they retain players as they go to clubs by choiceCats_Steve wrote: ↑Thu Aug 09, 2018 8:40 amI don't know why I'm buying into this. Re: GWS / SUNS >> How much more dollars
NRL CLUBS Leagues
Districts comps with grassroots bring up the juniors through the lower ranks
for example PENRITH PANTHERS District has a big playing pool of juniors
these juniors go through the ranks and usually go through panthers system
and will play for the club of choice.. or another club may pick them up.. if they are not wanted.
I have never been a FAN of the DRAFT>>
if your born in NEWCASTLE> you should be able to play for the Knights..
not be drafted to N.Z
Its what Rugby League has got was is great, Tribialism

I love the idea of the club talent being local. Players playing for the teams' they supported and all that.leeroy*NRL* wrote: ↑Thu Aug 09, 2018 10:15 amThat is what is Wrong with GWS AND SUNS>>

Not that it works, but I can't see a way other than a draft in the afl now.
How do you keep it equal once the kids are ready though and there's a surplus of talent from Penrith's district and next to 0 from another club's?
