Meanwhile NRL broadcasters are pleading for smaller stadiums as the usual shit crowds week in week out are a bad look and affect tv ratings. Worry about your own mess eh.
Fox Sports and Nine tell the government and NRL they want smaller – not bigger – stadiums
By Andrew Webster
28 September 2017

Fox Sports and Channel Nine are lobbying for an upgrade of Sydney's suburban grounds and Allianz Stadium ahead of ANZ Stadium because banks of empty seats on their rugby league broadcasts are a "bad look".

As Sydney's great stadium debate continues to drag on, Fairfax Media can reveal Fox Sports chief executive Patrick Delany and Nine director of sport Tom Malone have approached the NSW government and the NRL with their views.

While both welcome a significant refurbishment of ANZ Stadium into a rectangular stadium, they believe the flat atmosphere of small crowds at the 83,000-seat venue is damaging rugby league.

Fox Sports have been worried about the adverse effect of poor crowds on ratings at large stadiums for some time. It saw a spike in ratings for Monday night matches β€” which were abandoned this season β€” when they were played at smaller venues.

This season, it has scheduled its 2pm games at smaller suburban grounds because the near-sold out crowd adds to the atmosphere.

Bhaaaa . That's last year you goose .
Ths year ...the present ..your ratings are dropping alarmingly ..
RL are holding steady .

So that article is not the least bit relevant ..

If I was you I'd worry about the ugly mess that people are turning off in large numbers.
So your crowds have improved so much so that empty bays of seats are a thing of the past and your broadcast partners no longer have anything to be concerned about? All of course, a turnaround in less than one season? Yeah right.

Beatup, please check out the title of this thread. You're the bloke that started it remember!!!! You were trying to deflect from the real meaning of the article, i.e. the ugly state of the game of AFL, & babble on about ad dollars. Try to stick to that pal.

We know that in this year of catastrophic failings in your game your automatic reaction is to deflect to cwowds, cwowds, cwowds lololololololololololol. We get it pal.....you get good cwowds. Worlds best.....hip hip hooray!!!!!

Now try to stay on point my friend.

are you suggesting 16k is a great average? Most of the sides reside in one city, meaning there are around 8k for each side attending local derbies. Add to that you have a single team representing 2mil which artificially boosts your average

no I recan 20k would be a great average>>

remember most teams play in suburban grounds>>

even if they are a sell out, you are looking at a max of 16-19k
which has happened quite a lot this year already.

remember NRL have a lot of unfriendly kick of times, which favours tv more than crowds.

with Thursday Night and 6pm Friday kick off games being the NRL's worst attended games.

oh come now. Plenty of games are played in larger stadia which are rarely ever near capacity. In fact there are many cries from RL fans that suburban venues provide atmosphere and they dont want larger stadiums.

It's like me saying AFL is the best attended aussie rules comp in the world, so we must have good attendance. You compare crowds with your area, not your code, especially if other codes world-wide are a minor sport in comparison to that area.

AFL's average crowd dwarfs NRL crowds in Sydney. The same +++ more in melbourne. They're your comparison, not RL in England

I am not comparing Rugby league in England >>

I am comparing Rugby Codes (union and league) with crowd standards around the world>

you know

New Zealand
England (Ireland) Wales) Scotland
France
Italy
South Africa
Japan
etc etc...

Yes the whole 5million people in Sydney get to see the swans 11 games a year..
with who knows how any expats travelling to the great city to watch
Pies v swans
Crows v Swans
Hawks v Swans
Tigers v Swans

you see how popular AFL really is when the AFL plonked another team here (7k in Attendance)

and RL isnt even the second most popular sport in those countries, except NZ where RU is so far ahead it's not funny. If you're content comparing to those comps you must be very easy to please

So the swans crowds are boosted by people from interstate but not the Sydney NRL clubs from opposition sides in the same city?
