What is League's goal in the US? Is it to try and get the game to grow over there or mainly to try land sponsorship $$ ?

"Really puts things into perspective at how dismal AFLs international efforts are going."

Testing the water to get some $$ from China is about the extent... "dismal"

You use the 1 country thing like it's an insult and it's something you have over us. Apart from a couple of big execs, nobody's ever cared about International. We're proud it's an indigenous code.

Your name suggests 'we', referring to NFL. If that means you have any idea about American sport than you'd know how proud and stubborn with their own sports they are. They aren't open to change at all so your efforts are wasted if growing the game there is the goal.
I sense a hint of jealousy from you steve

Because lets face it. Rugby League is having a lot more success in Nth America than AFL in China.

I'll tell you why. AFL has nothing they can relate to China. China's number one sport is soccer. A game that is so different to AFL that they could almost be called polar opposites.

While Rugby League has plenty of things similar to Gridiron football.
Rugby League is the closest game to gridiron there is.
Both have -
structured plays
line breaks
rectangular metre marked fields
conversion kicks
crossing a line to score
head on collision tackles

A lot of Rugby League fans appreciate NFL more than AFL due to them relating to a lot of the plays.

As for America not embracing overseas sports.

Rugby Union has 125,000 players in the USA and over 2000 clubs.
More players than Australia.

Now if that is not embracing an overseas sport I don't know what is.

Well said !
Americans love their unique indigenous code.
Rugby League they will not.
Americans appreciate all collision sports.

League & Union are not like AFL. They can grow in foreign countries. Unlike AFL lol

I think this is due to them being more common sense games while AFL is just plain ridiculous to anyone outside Australia.

Just look at the turnout the All Blacks vs the American Eagles got.

AFL fans have their heads in the sand thinking Americans can't appreciate rugby codes..

In America.

I'd love to retort in a civil manner

Hard after "I think this is due to them being more common sense games while AFL is just plain ridiculous to anyone outside Australia."

America + common sense... come on now.

I don't have a blind bias.

I can very clearly see the common grounds of RL and NFL and that they would understand and relate far more.

I didn't know RL had that many participants in America - happy to be corrected

My statement wasn't based on our games. Was based on how stubborn and proud they are with their sports. What is their hope there?

AFL in China. AFL is never going to be played in China - by the Chinese. I don't think the AFL realistically think it is. I understand why they're over there though. All eyes and $

I see some of you like to use it but I just don't see the AFL 1 country thing as an insult to the game at all. Or a '1 up' for league.

With the US having a team in the 2017 RL world cup and set to host the 2025 RL world cup you would have to assume there is some interest there CS.

Well considering Americans don't follow a sport that drops a ball constantly and rewards points when you miss.
I would say the average American is a lot smarter than the average Victorian.

I just showed you a sellout union match between the USA and the NZ All Blacks.
And showed you the USA has more Union players than Australia.
You can deny the true facts all you like lol.. But at the end of the day AFL is a laughing stock at an international level.

And yes you do have blind bias. Rugby League has 28 first grade clubs in 5 countries.
AFL is yet to even get a team outside Australia lol.. :(/ :(/   =D =D

Both Rugby codes are far bigger global sports than AFL facts are facts.

Yeah fair call no research by me.
& therein lies the problem with some Aflol fans on here .
They argue without doing any research .

Well done for admitting .

Seeing as you are new I will tell you a brief history.
Lots of previous afl posters on here were straight out liars .
Thankfully they are no longer on here .
That's why the Rl posters say ..proof..or do some research etc .
Or don't deflect .

My thoughts & theories are based on assumptions/presumptions.
I don't argue them, I ask questions. That's why I came here in the first place. If you don't want questions, fair enough.

I don't deflect.

Rugby League in North America, come on really, just for laughs isn't it!
We could all be cruel and laugh out loud at the Toronto wolf pack but their just a bunch of dudes having a go so no laughs towards them.
I'm only laughing at deranged RL fans flying the flag thinking the Canadian sporting landscape is somehow going to be altered
Zero, nought, nothing is how much it will change, the sporting hierarchy is entrenched in Canada with ice hockey, gridiron, and basketball ( invented by a Canadian using peach baskets nailed to a ten foot pole as hoops) .

A lot of people have had more than a few laughs at the AFL Chinese experiment but for me the jokes on people taking RL in the USA and Canada seriously.

what getting games with 9k crowds for a div 2 team is bad ?
Toronto are going from strength to strength and they are 2 years old..... :thumbleft:

The costs of running wolfpac are quite steep, for example they have to pay all travel expenses ( flights from London) and accommodation for the visiting English teams.
Most players have been recruited far from Toronto, extra costs.
As long as the benefactors keep chipping in there is some hope.
