Which code do you guys seeing have more success over there? Sounds like Union have the front running which surprises me a bit. A result of Unions governing body getting it done?

I think you said the RL World Cup is there in 2025? With the League International scene - who are the powers that push the game? I have it in my head that the NRL is the worlds premier comp, followed by England. Am I on the money at all?
That'll do for now.
Rugby has a big head start with over 2000 amateur clubs as well as highschool, university comps and now a professional comp. league has only 11 Amateur and 1 semi pro clubs nationwide that compete annually. Rugby 7 is now in the olympics which has seen an increase in funding. Personally Rugby will succeed because they just get things done and if it doesnt work they will try again. Denver test was a good example especially by the NRL of what they think of expansion, it was a great opportunity to give the game expose, they got 19k which was a great result but could have got a lot more if they had support from the NRL

Moore sports international has been given the rights to host the 2025 world cup in the USA. There are some doubts due to the lack of activity in the USA, there was plans for a pro comp by moore sports but havent heard anything yet, as well as possible funding issues as NZ and England still haven't been paid for their game in Denver.

NRL are top in regards to attendance and tv money but Super league are way at the bottom. Average yearly attendance is only about 8000 and some of their best players usually jump shit to rugby because of the money on offer, Super League salary cap is only about 3.5m AUS, Rugby in england is about 13m USD.
Thanks for the detailed response.

Is it a regional thing in the US? Like, the New England prominent college sort of area? I can't really picture it being played on the west coast, especially down south.

I would've imagined the faster pace and action of RL would appeal more over there. Even though there is endless downtime in an NFL game, when the clock is running the pace is pretty frenetic.

If they fuck up the 25 wc, what happens? Countries bid again? It goes back to the previous host ala the Olympics?

- More to come
this will give you an in sight to the competitions nationwide including the west coast https://www.usarugby.org/ncs/club/. 3 of the new MLR teams are west coast based, LA Coast, San Diego Legion and Seattle Seawolves (2018 champions).

If only it was that easy. America is a hard market to crack regardless how good you think your product is. It takes a lot of hard work and money which america with the help of world rugby and the other unions are will to put in.

Im guessing it will go back to Australia because 2021 is in england

South American Pro league (Liga Sul Americana de rugby) confirmed to start in 2020 with 8 teams, 2 from Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, 1 from Chile & Paraguay. Plans will also be in place to have a European cup like tournament with the MLR teams.

This might see the end of the Jaguares in super rugby 2020 there will be some changes with the end of the TV deal.

I don't get why that don't just have a giant global comp with relegation or conference style and include all nations teams in both hemispheres.

Would be one of the best footy comps in the world.
It will be logistical nightmare and cost a fortune. A world club championship like league would be great but finding the time to do it would be the main issue.
Yeah cost is a big issue. When I think about it. Is probably best to have a local comp in each nation and have a short champions league with all the premiers in each nation.

That way they still keep the game local. But get international interest too then.
A club championship I agree. However in other sports such as soccer or basketball they seem to be over shadowed by world cups or become gimicky. There needs to be a big prize to keep everyone interested.

South American League that is some Awesome stuff..

if i were the Jaguars i would also pull out of the Super Rugby format..
the costs associated with that would be big..

They are doing what Australia should be doing> making a product in house.

Does anyone really care all that much about Rugby up there?

Are there any regions where it is actually the number 1 code?
Never realised quite how much hate there was for AFL from our Northern friends.

rugby does not dominate South America>>

Soccer is the number 1 code by a long way..

but Rugby Is pretty popular in places such as Argentina & Uruguay

as you know> Rugby Union is popular in Private Schools in NSW and QLD
though this is changing year by year>> with Private schools bringing on League and some AFL

In Sydney Rugby Union is most Popular and number 1 on the North Shore of sydney.
2nd most Popular in Manly Warringah (northern beaches)
eastern sububrbs would be very tight between Union and League..

those catchments when considering the size of Sydney are very small..

Grassroots Rugby is still travelling ok in NSW AND QLD But rugby league is chipping into there niche.
also AFL is gaining momentum in UNION Heartlands..

Union really struggles for media attention
State leagues attendances and tv figures are very poor.

only when the Wallabies play can they get close to a sell out sign
and tv figures have dropped massively since the glory days of the 90's early 2000's
Union is in Free Fall..

it seems to be the worst Union gets the Bigger NRL gets

Rugby australia are just too concerned about the wallabies that they have forgotten about grass roots, which is still going strong despite its challenges. They have a massive uphill battle.

ARU has been very short sited>> Wallabies bring in the cash and neglecting everything else..
Face a Huge Battle>>

weird cause Union is going great guns in many countries>>

proofs what bad management will do to a sport.

ATlanta and Boston have officially confirmed their place in MLR for the 2020 season
https://www.usmlr.com/news/atlanta-and- ... 020-season

So that brings the offical MLR confirmed number to 10 teams with Ontario soon to be officially confirmed for 2019 and Dallas, Chicago, LA, DC and Vancouver still in the negotiation faze.

Interestingly the GM for the Atlanta MLR team is also part owner of the Atlanta rhinos rugby league team. So future collaboration between the two teams looks certain

AFL is only played in one small populated country. Is a bit like Gaelic football in Ireland.
The locals like it. But no other country or football code knows or cares about it.
