They would need to mix the two pools Sydney clubs playing Qld teams as well as there traditional rivals
Qlders actually most watch qld teams. Conference would help that.
For all clubs to prosper we need top rating matches

A Sydney comp is a step backwards.

How big a crowd will G.Cst V Newc/NZ or even WA bring ?
99k in brisbane watched South's on TV last night. Qlders want to watch qld teams.
Your looking at 4 qld teams & storm, so only 3 teams which aren't among best draws. Guess what?! Conferences will develop rivalries

i would prefer the NRL strive towards 20 teams than conference. i am 50 / 50 on the idea.

I do like the idea of potentially 3 Grand Finals.
but Top 8 must be reworked on Points not conferences.
Can't have 3 grand finals without pure conference system.
20 team comp can lead Newcastle to join NSW conference

that is why i am 50 / 50 both suggestions have benefits.
but they also have there negatives..

So i would overall the NRL target a Bigger COMP

What your suggesting is a soupped up Qld Cup and NSW cup, despite most fans & sponsors having little interest you'd have little chance of getting similar money, from the networks to what were currently getting.

I would've thought much of is about increasing broadcasting rights.
TV is pushing for Brisbane 2, while Sydney conference guarantees biggest rated games in biggest market happen more often. Not to mention 3 grand finals.

The best way of increasing broadcast money would be to get as many blockbuster games on TV as possible without having matches overlapping each other. Also FTA broadcasters are much more concerned about metro ratings than regional.

You could have have 3 GF either way.

Best way to increase ratings is to show Sydney teams in Sydney & Qld teams in qld.

I think Buzz's idea would be the best way to go, Except for the part about bringing back the bears and Jets. We Should be looking more towards the pacific.

North American Rugby League: Setback Hits NARL Ahead Of Debut Season

WRITTEN BY
BRENDAN BRADFORD

The North American Rugby League's Western Division has officially suspended until 2022 due to insurance concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic.
The six teams in the Western Division - Las Vegas, Phoenix, Austin, San Diego, San Francisco and Portland - were planning on being based in the same complex in Nevada for the duration of the home-and-away season.

After a round robin and play-offs, the winner of the Western Division was scheduled to the play the winner of the six-team Eastern Division to determine the inaugural NARL champion.
Those plans changed this week when the NARL announced the Western Division was being suspended until next year.
"Due to circumstances beyond NARL’s control, the six Western Division teams (Las Vegas, Phoenix, Austin, San Diego, San Francisco and Portland) will not be able to participate in match play this year," a statement said.

"While we have made tremendous advances in the development of these teams and the league as a whole, we have unfortunately been unable to secure the high level of insurance we feel is necessary to ensure that all of the players are adequately covered while playing for the NARL.
"The health and well being of the players and coaches is, obviously, a top priority for us, and we will not allow any of the athletes on the field without knowing they are very well protected.
"The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has contributed to the insurance problem for the Western Conference teams because those players would have been cohabitating and that created an issue for the insurers."

Each round of matches was scheduled to take place in a Magic Round format, with all teams playing at the same ground on the same day.
The Western Conference was set to take place at a complex 130km north east of Las Vegas, while Eastern Division games are to be held in Boston, New York, Atlanta, Virginia and Cleveland.
Although the West won't play any matches in the 2021 season, scheduled to start in June, the NARL plans on playing a full season next year.
"While this situation is certainly not optimal, we believe (after thoughtful consideration) that it is the prudent approach to an unfortunate situation," the NARL said.
"The six teams will remain a part of the NARL and will be ready to participate in the 2022 match play.
"To all of our fans and supporters, thank you for your kindness and encouragement these past six months.
"We look forward to sharing the games of the Eastern Division teams every Saturday this summer and to delivering amazing rugby for many years to come."

The NARL has been met with excitement in the US and Australia, with former NRL players Eddie Pettybourne (Brooklyn Kings) and Pita Godinet (Atlanta Rhinos) signing on.
Earlier this month, New York Freedom signed Tony Williams, but tore up his contract following social media comments he made regarding Jarryd Hayne's sentence.

Not convinced that the “insurance” issue is the sole reason the western division postponement.

None of the western teams had listed home grounds or bases and all games were to be played, in magic round format, at the Mesquite sport complex in Nevada.
Mesquite has an estimated population of 18,000 and an average June daytime of 38 degrees. It is located north 130 km north east of Las Vegas, the nearest participating team.

They aren’t allowed crowds due to COVID restrictions so it doesn’t matter where they play.

Having said that I’ll be surprised if this comp gets off the ground.

Mesquite is in Clark County Nevada which currently has an 80% capacity for entertainment and sporting facilities.
Odd when that county has way more infections than other Nevada counties.

The Western Conference does seem to be a fair bit behind the eastern conference.
The eastern conference at this time are not releasing any funding details saying that the investors wish to remain anonymous at this time.

Does not look to good in these times.

I don’t want to say I told you so....but.....

https://www.rugbyleagueplanet.com/2021/ ... ut-season/

The North American Rugby League cancels debut season
The North American Rugby League (NARL) has announced that it has cancelled its planned inaugural season.
One of the reasons for that decision was that two of the three people originally appointed to source additional sponsorships for the league pulled out at the eleventh hour. That left a gaping hole in the NARL’s projected financial position.

When it announced its arrival on the scene at the end of March, the NARL said that it would support all 14 teams that were originally listed in the competition totaling $4.2 million. Several weeks into proceedings, the league announced that the entire West Coast Conference, consisting of six teams, wouldn’t happen in 2021.
That left eight teams that would still need to be financed to the tune of $2.4 million. Six in the East Coast Conference and two in a Canadian Conference.
After the two sponsorship appointees withdrew their services, the NARL appointed two new board members, Shan Dassanaike and Paul Kallee-Grover, with a view to helping bring some stability to the new league.
“It’s great to bring Shan and Paul onto our board, they have a great wealth of experience and we’re delighted to have them with us,” NARL COO Rob Curtis said in an official statement at the time.
“Both Paul and Shan share a love of the sport and are dedicated to growing the game across North America and inviting them onto our board was an easy and exciting decision.”

Another reason for the two sponsorship guys pulling out was because they apparently got spooked by the position taken by the national governing body USA Rugby League (USARL). It said the NARL was an unsanctioned league, and as such, any players who competed for teams in that league would not be eligible for selection to the national men’s team, the USA Hawks.
One other significant factor in the decision to cancel the 2021 season was the internal structure on which the league was founded. It was said by some to be somewhat hierarchal, which became apparent was not the right approach.
To its credit, the league’s front office recognized that change was needed in order to make the NARL operate more efficiently.
On top of the financial and internal structural issues, the pandemic has also been a source of logistical problems for the league. Specifically, venues have been reluctant to give rugby league clubs access to grounds as they are still wrestling with crowd capacity limits.

Then there were the challenges of having insurance for players and workers compensation coverage. These became an uphill struggle for the league within the time constraints it found itself confined to.
“What that means for us right now is a little bit of the unknown,” New York Freedom principal CJ Cortalano said in an interview with Rugby League Planet. “We’ve had conversations with other East clubs about actually playing some friendlies this summer, but we don’t know what that looks like.
“It’s completely disappointing, although we remain optimistic about the future and that 2022 has some potential.”
As to whether players who have signed up with NARL teams might instead play for USARL teams this season so that they can get some game time, Cortalano said he thinks that is very unlikely.
NARL team, and former USARL club, Atlanta Rhinos is set to play USARL club Delaware Black Foxes in a ‘friendly’ this Saturday in North Carolina. That game was set up a month ago and was meant to be a warm-up match for the Rhinos.
The 2021 NARL season had been due to kick off on June 19 in Brooklyn, New York.

i would not say you told us so...

I believe i said,

Who would start are a New Competition of a code, across 2 countries

during a pandemic, and everything is unknown

with no crowds....

right there and than, it had disaster written all over it.

the only thing they were good at was Logo's of the teams, they were quite good.
