* On track for record surplus in excess of $50 million

Well done Peter The Great!! It's amazing the jealousy displayed toward the great man by the fumble fan types here. Truly delusional!!!!

The californian rugby league is now operating as the (USA) Championship Rugby League.
With 6 out of 9 listed teams participating in 2023. 3 previous teams are now defunct.

The AMNRL, USARL and NARl are all very quiet.
As are the Toronto Wolfpack.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.

Why would you play it on an oval - doesn’t lend itself to good viewing

Love Rugby League
5/7/23

Toronto Wolfpack in bizarre head coach resignation 24 hours after announcing his appointment.

Just less than 24 hours after announcing the head coach appointment of Matt Wyles, the new Toronto Wolfpack boss has today announced his resignation.
The former Super League side confirmed the appointment on Tuesday, with the club set to feature in the Canada Cup with nine fixtures at Lamport Stadium in 2023.
However, the decision has forced the side to postpone Saturday’s home opener against Copperheads.

The Canadian club have not played since their 42-6 win over Washington DC Cavalry in the Canada Cup in September 2021, and are set to face teams later this year from the United States, Jamaica and Canada.

Toronto cancel first game in nearly two years
The club’s new owners, who took over in 2021, stated that the new Wolfpack are ‘completely different club–logistically, financially, and operationally–than the one that was under the former ownership’.
On the sudden departure, the owners commented: “Although we accept and understand the situation, due to Matt’s unexpected departure from the Wolfpack we have had to make the difficult decision to postpone Saturday’s home opener.
“We did not make this decision lightly; we have a fully contracted roster and had planned to announce the team today. We even debated still playing the match. However, we have to be respectful of our players and ensure their safety on the pitch.
“All tickets purchased for the match will be refunded in full.
“As fans, we completely understand your anger, frustration, and disappointment with this announcement. We also understand any cynicism or skepticism you may have going forward.

Former Owner of Toronto Wolfpack buys English Rugby League Club.

Hemel Stags/Ottawa Aces/Cornwall Choughs

It was first announced in March 2019 that a consortium from Canada, led by Toronto Wolfpack founder Eric Perez, had purchased the Rugby Football League membership of club Hemel Stags and planned to relocate their licence to Canada.
More due diligence took place during 2019 to decide if the club was ready to join League 1 for the 2020 season along with the New York City Rugby League, however at the end of July 2019 it was announced that the club would not enter the league in 2020 and would instead work towards joining the league in 2021.
On 9 March 2020, Ottawa announced they would push back their debut season and enter League 1 in 2021. However, due to travel restrictions between Canada and the United Kingdom resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Aces and the RFL agreed to defer entry to the League 1 another year again, until 2022.
Come March 2021, it was announced Ottawa would compete in the newly founded North America Rugby League along with the Toronto Wolfpack, however Perez said the club still expected to play in League 1 in 2022 and suggested the club could play as a 2nd team in the NARL.
On 22 October 2021, it was announced that Ottawa Aces would relocate back to the United Kingdom permanently due the "unstable operating environment" of running a club in the British leagues from Canada during a pandemic. They would also withdraw from the NARL effectively disbanding as the Ottawa Aces.
2021–present: Relocation to Cornwall
On 2 November 2021 the club was officially relocated to Penryn, Cornwall and rebranded as Cornwall R.L.F.C.. (Choughs). The club began play in RFL League 1, the third tier of the British rugby league system in 2022.

2022 season won 1, lost 19. Defeated West Wales Raiders. 24 to 4, West Wales withdrew from the competition during the 2022 season.
2023 season won 1, lost 14 (season not complete). Defeated London Skolars 35 to 10.

Revealed: IMG’s minimum standards for Super League stadiums

serious about RL 6/7/23

The future of every Super League club, no, every rugby league club in the UK is in the hands of IMG, from Wigan Warriors, Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves and St Helens to the teams chasing Super League promotion such as Bradford Bulls, Featherstone Rovers and others.
Speaking of promotion, Super League promotion will no longer be determined in the same way that it has in recent years.
In fact it is a move back towards the system used from 2009-14 but with more details and a yearly look at the grades of every club which will determine whether they have a place in Super League or not.

These grades will be determined by a number of factors that have already been outlined by IMG and the RFL.
They are as follows:
Fandom: encouraging clubs to attract more fans in stadia, at home and digitally, and to improve fan engagement, contributing to both club and central revenues.

Performance: incentivising clubs to perform on the field and drive fan awareness and engagement. Teams will be ranked between 1 and 36 based on where they finish in the leagues for the previous three seasons. Bonus points will be awarded to teams who win league and cup competitions in the previous season.
Finances: reflecting the success of fan engagement and business performance and rewarding sustainable investment, as well as diversified revenue streams and sound financial management.
Stadium: based on a number of factors, including facilities and utilisation, which add value to the fan and broadcast or digital viewer experience, and match or exceed competition from other sports and events.

Catchment: based on area population and the number of clubs in the area, with a view to maximising growth of the sport in the largest markets to generate new fan bases and incentivise investment.
However, now the RFL have published the IMG handbook which provides the full details behind points awarded to clubs for every area.
In this, they have revealed the minimum standards for a Super League stadium.

The minimum capacity is 5,000 with a minimum of 2,000 seats if agreed by stadium advisory group.
There is a minimum 200 sponsored seats and the same for corporate lounges with 40 seats expected in the Directors Box.
In terms of Broadcasting it reads: “Designated parking area for broadcast operation. Minimum of
50m by 50m. 50 car park spaces for OB Compound. Suitable surface to satisfaction of broadcaster for OB Compound to be located. Additional 15 car park spaces for broadcast staff.”

Likewise for media it reads: “The press box should be able to accommodate 30 in comfort with
an overflow area of 20 seats. Should be equipped with firmly fixed flat working surfaces. Overhead lighting should be provided. There should be a room which can be used as a working press lounge & conference facility. TV monitor in press box.”
Clubs will also be awarded 0.125 points for having an LED screen.
There are lies, damn lies and then there are ratings.
