I dunno, maybe places like China really are waiting there to be taken, maybe they haven't had a lot of exposure to different sports over the years, who knows. Good luck I suppose. I can't even see Rugby League doing much ever in China outside maybe one day having a niche comp unless they find it on TV and like it, I doubt it tho.

I know Asians like violent combative sports, all of them are more or less crazy over some form of martial art and have been for centuries and don't mind having a skirmish here and there with their neighbours to prove it, I just don't know about full contact football codes and it's not because of size because there would be millions of people bigger than more or less anyone we have in Australia just walking around the desert. I think it might have more to do with human contact iibph, a religious belief.

May have a point they are more into spiritual pursuits historically and betting - don't know how it will go 4 mill views is really nothing over there less than .4% of the population - could be people sick of China idol and keeping up with the wongs!

Sorry guys i had to post this for a laugh. In the comments section.

Simple solution : have your boys play AFL. I forbade my sons from the rugby codes, and they are now thriving in the much safer AFL environment. Furthermore, it is the worlds second most popular football league after Bundesliga. I have not regretted it.

Have always maintained that if the zealots repeat it often enough ...it then becomes Fact/Gospel in fumbleland.

I find it strange that the Port boss predicted that the 1st game would get a ratings figure of 2 mill before it was even played. And then hey presto that's exactly what it got apparently. Somehow I think this has got more to do with the way ratings in China are collected and interpreted than pure numbers.

Pretty small fry to what Football gets in China, will be interesting how the new chinese owner of the Newcastle Jets will go, he is saying all the right things, and has a good football background with teams and sponsorship. I would be pretty happy if I was a Jets fan.
Football in NSW
- Football 200,868
- AFL NSW/ACT 28,468
- Rugby League 96,041
- Rugby Union 40,685
Football has 22% more players than the other football codes combined

Why is it regarded as a great sign when it's soccer but not AFL??? You people are very selective when it comes to your own sport!
