its nothing more than a state vs state gimmick! all you have to do is look at everything else NRL, its patheticParraEelsNRL wrote:Far dinkum man we have argued the same shit for years, and the past lately and going back a fair bit in a decade/more? I dunno anymore SOO has a big crowd or sells out, it caught on and continues to impress.Xman wrote:your claim origin is the biggest event is BS. It gets smaller crowds and rates better because it compares to a non-primetime AFL GF. The AFL GF sells out within minutes, and could be sold out 2-3 times over if the capacity allowed. The SOO repeatedly struggles to sell-out, and certainly didnt last nightleeroy*NRL* wrote:never said it got near 100kXman wrote:rubbish.leeroy*NRL* wrote:that's because
ORIGIN is the greatest Event Australia HAS
Like AMERICAN and the SUPERBOWL
its an EVENT! that makes huge HEADLINES
When does Origin get near 100k? It may get good ratings but not much better than the AFL GF which is shown outside prime time
Rugby league is played in rectangle ground.
where the capacity is a lot smaller.
its bigger then the AFL GF (3 x Bigger)
therefore Being the Superior EVENT in AUSTRALIA
The Biggest SPORTING EVENT IN AUSTRALIA
Just because you play it 3 times doesnt make it more popular. Otherwise lets simply add the crowds and ratings of all games played by both codes and see who is the most popular.

Re: Has Rugby League Became More Popular Than AFL In Melbourne?
yes SOO is an attractive spectacle. Its about more than just the sport, its about the passionate rivalry, its the best state v the second best. There is far more passion shown than the NRL season. However it doesnt translate to increased popularity of NRL. This year the crowds are the lowest since 2004. SOO is booming, NRL not so much.
Part of me wishes the AFL could have an equivalent, but the fact is the regular season provides that passion already, just not every fan within the one game. Look at tonight, a Thursday night and there are 50 thousand Adelaide fans packed into the Adelaide oval to watch the crows v the hawks. Thats passion, and for many AFL teams it lasts all season, not just 3 games

Lol .the gimmick crap again .leagueiscrap wrote:prehaps they needs to start up a gimmick like the SOO isParraEelsNRL wrote:I wish the Australian team the kangaroos rated like that again.
It just eats you up that we have the biggest sporting event in this country .
But if it helps you sleep at night ,then call it a gimmick .
I will laugh at the fact that our gimmick is far bigger than any afl game in the universe .

Well maybe they will, maybe they'll call it a world cup, oh guess what, it's being held here in 2017.

Haha I knew this post would go crazy.
Have to admit, the MCG is a great stadium for Origin. Was such a good atmosphere to watch a game of Rugby League in.

So do you think the NRL will risk doing it again next year??? I mean that unless they get the same crowd or more then you'll hear a chorus of people saying it's not worth it (particularly NSW RL people!)AFLsforPussies wrote:Haha I knew this post would go crazy.

Think they only have a deal for every 3 years with the Victorian government at the moment.Swans4ever wrote:So do you think the NRL will risk doing it again next year???
