Sydney Stadiums Plan

Post by Beaussie »

Could only be expected from Sydney right? Move from a stadium that seats 85k to a stadium that holds just 65k. Typical NRL mentality. They were the reason the Olympic Stadium was reduced from 110k to 85k too. Oh and what's the bet the NRL will not contribute one cent to this stadium plan? Fucking leeches.

Can't wait to see the likes of Manly and Cronulla fans whose clubs amongst others will be forced to play at this new stadium in Moore Park. We know how their fans just love to travel across town. :(/ :(/ :(/

ANZ Stadium loses out under plan to build new sports stadiums at Moore Park and Parramatta
John Lehmann
The Daily Telegraph
May 04, 2015

SYDNEY’S Olympic arena ANZ Stadium will lose out under a confidential plan to spend up to $1.3 billion building new state-of-the-art sports stadiums at Moore Park and Parramatta.

With Sydney’s biggest stadium set to miss new funding, high-level negotiations are being finalised for ANZ’s operators to be paid $135 million over the next 15 years to hand over control to a new government-appointed super stadium trust.

Sport Minister Stuart Ayres is expected to receive a report this month recommending a new 65,000-seat venue be built near Moore Park’s outdated Allianz Stadium on land presently controlled by the Centennial Park and Moore Park Trust. It will also recommend the construction of a new 35,000- seat Parramatta Stadium, home to rugby league’s Parramatta Eels and soccer’s Western Sydney Wanderers.

The controversial plan will require Premier Mike Baird’s support to double the $600 million stadium fund he promoted at the March election.

Highly placed sources told The Daily Telegraph Mr Ayres believes the government will need to allocate about $800 million to build the new Moore Park stadium and $400 million for Parramatta Stadium.

Former Liberal leader John Brogden, who is writing the report for Mr Ayres, has also revealed to the Centennial Park and Moore Park Trust that a smaller multi-sports venue — believed to be worth about $100 million — would be built when Allianz is demolished in about five years.

Mr Ayres has told sports bosses, including NRL chief Dave Smith, he is determined to win the Premier’s backing to “future-proof” Sydney’s stadiums rather than adopt a smaller, piecemeal approach.

“It’s a once in a 50-year chance to get it right,’’ he has said. But the plan will create doubt about the long-term future of ANZ, with its bid for $350 million to move seats closer to the sports action being rejected.

Sources close to Mr Baird say the Premier will consider whatever plan is presented but they stress that “$600 million is what’s been allocated”.

The centrepiece of the plan is a hi-tech, 65,000-seat stadium to be built on the upper and lower Kippax playing fields at Moore Park East between Anzac Parade and Driver Avenue. Construction could begin in 2017 with the new venue expected to be hosting matches by 2020.

Mr Brogden has said in private meetings the development would include an underground carpark and training facilities. It would be serviced by the new light-rail service running from the CBD to Randwick.

But Centennial Park Trust chairman Tony Ryan has told Mr Brogden the trust has “significant concerns” over traffic management and land under its control being used for the stadium.

ANZ’s private-sector operator, Stadium Australia Group, is said to be in favour of a “management partnership” under which a new “super trust”, involving the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust, would take over the running of Allianz, the SCG, Parramatta Stadium and ANZ.

Stadium Australia Group would be paid annual annuities worth $135 million — a figure based on its projected earnings over the rest of its lease, due to expire in 2031.

It would also agree to waive its contractual rights which would limit the new Moore Park venue to 48,000 seats and Parramatta Stadium to 35,000 and prevent them from having roofs.

Been lots of talk up here for a while now that the NRL is no longer keen on playing games at ANZ preferring this new stadium at Moore Park with ANZ and the SFS demolished.

I wonder what the multi purpose sports venue in place of the SFS is? Built for Taylor Swift? lol

now you'll just need to get people to go to the game.
Well the venue is just part of it
Access to the venue with light rail from central
A massive underground car park with entry & exit points to all access roads instead of the one in & one out for Allianz meaning you dont have to sit in traffic for 45 minutes after a game.
All this plus a top notch stadium deal so club ticketed members of all tennent clubs have reciprocal rights ensure this new stadium will host the biggest club crowds in sydney week in.. week out

Um, Souths and the Bulldogs today are not as keen as the NRL appears to be for this new stadium. It appears David Gallop and the FFA are not so keen either. Oh and if you read between the lines, the Premier does not seem so keen on spending millions on a new stadium at Moore Park.

ANZ Stadium: NRL foes the Bulldogs and the Rabbitohs unite over funding stoush
EXCLUSIVE John Lehmann
The Daily Telegraph
May 07, 2015 12:00AM

TRADITIONAL rivals Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and South Sydney Rabbitohs have joined forces to fight against the high-powered push for an $800 million sports stadium in the east, snubbing Sydney’s West.

The clubs’ CEOs, Canterbury’s Raelene Castle and Souths’ John Lee, have written a joint letter to Premier Mike Baird requesting an urgent meeting, sources said.

The clubs’ decision to lobby the Premier pits them against NRL boss Dave Smith, Sports Minister Stuart Ayres and the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust, who are driving the Moore Park stadium plan.

DAVID GALLOP’S WARNING TO SYDNEY OVER ANZ FUNDING

The clubs strongly believe any plan to build a new 65,000-seat stadium in Moore Park rather than investing in ANZ Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park is a slap in the face for rugby league’s heartland in the west.

The letter points out the clubs, which hold long-term contracts to play home games at ANZ, where they fought out the 2014 grand final, together have more than 50,000 members and 80,000 juniors.

The Rabbitohs now have more of their 34,000 members living in Sydney’s west rather than its traditional southern Sydney base.

The club CEOs declined to comment. Sources said the clubs were deeply disturbed ANZ would miss out on any funding under a plan being developed by Mr Ayres to spend up to $1.3 billion on stadiums.

The CEOs have also told Mr Baird their fans do not want to travel to the eastern suburbs to watch games.

As well as the new Moore Park stadium Mr Ayres is pushing for $400 million to be invested building a new 35,000-seat stadium at Parramatta.

Former Liberal leader John Brogden, who is writing a report for the government, criticised ANZ’s location in a meeting with the Centennial Park and Moore Park Trust chairman Tony Ryan.

But it is believed Mr Baird remains unconvinced of the need to double his $600 million stadium fund and thinks Sydney’s 80,000-seat ANZ venue is critical in competing against Melbourne for major events.

Media identity Ita Buttrose, a member of the Centennial Park Trust, vowed yesterday to fight plans for the new Moore Park stadium.

The influential SCG Trust includes leading businessman Tony Shepherd, broadcaster Alan Jones, Destination NSW chairman John Hartigan and cricket legend Steve Waugh.

Did I say you mentioned the Bulldogs? I just added them as another team not keen on ANZ Stadium missing out.

What you say about Souths goes against what they say about their membership numbers in the west. Their crowds and membership numbers have actually improved since moving to ANZ. Good luck convincing them of the need to move.

beaussie, the other simple fact is ANZ is not built for a Rectangle field. It is not ideal to watch Football/League?union there, as you are a long way from the action. It was designed as an Olympic stadium with a running track. ANZ as it is is wasted, they know it, they know that AFL and cricket are not going to be played there, the main sports in NSW are all played on rectangle fields.

BTW Gallop and the FFA do not back ANZ at all, for a start the Wanderers dont want to play there, their other sydney club is in the East, they back the development in the east.

Parking and light rail as Raiderdave has said is a very important inclusion in any plan.
