drop the gloves to talk how most sports respect other codes

Post by 214Four »

I thought id start a new thread about the respect and even genuine interest sports stars show towards other codes because lets be honest here, the majority of aussies dont have the same bias/negative opion on rival codes like some ppl in here, Most Australians have a respect or even follow multiple football codes, but from personal experience i have found that sports stars in general show and have the most respect for rival codes than mainstream australia.

examples i have is barry Hall, i saw him at the 2008 NRL grand final with other swans(dont know who they were though) and when i went upto him he said how he follows RL specially since living in Sydney and training and working with NRL players. my other is Ben Barba, i chatted with him quite afew times on his experiences training etc etc and i bought up AFL in a conversation with him and he had nothing but praise and respect and actually enjoyed watching the game, i believe he also had trained and worked with league players too. I hope in the future all codes respect and work at not being detrimental to others... im not going to hold my breath tho...

I for one support the wests tigers in the NRL and Western Syd Wanderers in the A-league. I do not really watch AFl to be honest(bar the occasional flick over to watch for abit) but when ive been in AFL territory and have been asked who i support in AFL i say Richmond, thats the team i 'go for' basically cos there the tigers and they appear to be abit of a batler team.

Any other TF members who support or have some(even if slight) respect or interest in other codes or teams?

Heres a video of the NSW Waratahs Rugby Union coach and players talking about Sam Burgess, in it they mention how they follow NRL and the coach talks about 'his' team the Rabbitohs... NOTE: Its the 3rd video on the page.

Yes I'm a great example of someone who's played and enjoys viewing both codes. However 214, this lovely thread doesn't belong on these pages. It's too nice. Too friendly. Too caring to be placed on a board title the fight club.

I need to say this. You wouldn't catch me dead at any NRL, A-League or Super 15 game. I have no interest in watching thugs without brains, wimps and thugs with brains in action.

That's my genuine feelings about it and that's all I have to say.

Adam you silly blind ding bat, open your mind and you'll see what the game is about. Just like me and marngrook. At first I must say it looked just like raiders descriptions, a bunch of seagulls chasing the last chip, and, quite frankly it still does. But I took the time and now can acknowledge the skill and structure of the game. It also has helped to play the game and play it well as I do.

As for the biff? Yes, there's countless reasons why it should be brought back. Here's some very clear evidence as to why

Notice the brawl in the amateur marngrook game at the end. If you nongs think the afl banning toe to toe fights is doing anything to stop violence on the pitch in grass roots footy you're seriously dreaming.

My past two seasons there''s been 3 all in brawls involving my team. 3 in two seasons and that's just one amateur team in Sydney. Yes the kiddies are really taking note. As I've said before violence in humans is an inherent trait, its always been there and always will be long after softies like phelpsy and Xman have passed away ;)

Ahhhh its hard being right so often :|
