The reason councils pay AFL clubs to play in their areas is because the local community wil make more money then the council give the AFL.

I've heard that they have almost half the amount of local league leagues that they had 20 years ago. And how does the nRL respond? A meaningless city v country game which no one gives a shit about and a shit team from Parramatta taking one game to Mudgee and that's it!

So pretty much anything that isn't SOO TV ratings isn't relevant as far as determining a code's popularity then? Tipping numbers, fantasy football numbers, memberships, attendances, participation, revenue, GF victory parades, it's all irrelevant to the support a code has in an area.

Les also seems to have forgotten that the NRL played trials in the Riverina in Albury in 2011 & Wagga in 2012
and also the VFL haven't played a game in Wagga in 15 years
& they've taken money off rate payers to do so on this occasion.... while the NRL didn't
