Re: The most skillful sport RL v AFL
Yes and i said the marngrookers can kick the drop punt well. But no they are not comparable. RL kickers display much more skill. They are more proficient at torpedos, bombs, curving grubbers, moving the ball in the air and having it land in a way which makes it follow a certain direction after impact with the ground, dropkicks etc.

They may kick a higher proportion of those kicks, but that is only because they kick few kicks in comparison. Most AFL players would kick the ball 15-25 times per game. A proportion of those would be along the ground, shaping around the corner, low stab passes, long bombs, opposite side of the body etc...
OK try some questions:
1. Do all RL players on a team kick the ball during a game?
2. Do all RL players kick for conversions?
3. Do RL players kick with either foot during a game?
4. Do RL players kick for goal during the pressures of normal play, ie when tackled etc?
5. Do RL players kick while running full pace?
6. Do RL players kick over 60 metres?
7. Do RL players kick to a teammate who has a direct opponent with the primary role of stopping the pass?
Take your time.

No really...Wow
These skills i learnt at the age of 12. Oh except for the "low and high kicks" and thew kicks "from one step" Still struggling with those ones :_<>
Thanks for confirmation on which code requires the better kicking skills Xman =D>
I would say no to all these.
Seriously, there are what about 50kicks in a full RL game at most? There are many hundreds of kicks in a afl game. Yes the majority a drop punts but a proportion are across the body from left to right and right to left, from either foot, high and skimming the ground low, or rolling end of end along the ground.
If you honestly believe they are comparable you really are stupid!
for F sakes you wombat
they can't kick straight .. or catch when theres no one near them ... they are bumbling clowns

hmm, so out of 10 how many times would an AFL player drop a simple catch uncontested Dave?Raiderdave wrote:Xman wrote:So do RL players kick with either foot? The answers are provided in your quote. Very confirming I'd say of RL kickers being more skillful. They pretty much do all that marngrookers do except RL players have many more tricks up their sleeve in the kicking department that they are skilled at.
Look at it like this Xman. Its a sunny day and you're out walking with your missus along st kilda prominade taking in the sights with your big round testicle eyes and spitting poo about the AFL comp to your missus who is disgusted by it when you come across a juggler. He's good and is doing the three ball through the leg trick really well. He does it at different speeds, with different hands, "high and low" , and while he is running at full speed. Quite amazing you think before you start spitting more poo about the afl comp at your missus. Then you stroll down the prominade further and low and behold there's another juggler. He's doing the three ball through the leg trick like the last guy and you are again impressed. But then he starts doing the box trick, the waterfountain trick, the millsamess trick and the behind the back trick all at different speeds "high and low" with different hands and while running at full speed. As youre walking off down the prominade taking the sites in with your testicle eyes while holding your missus' hand which one would you be saying has the most skill?
Take your time now

Re: The most skillful sport RL v AFL
I seriously cannot believe you are suggesting a game where only a couple of players on a team kick the ball maybe 20 times a match is more skillful at kicking compared to a game where kicking the ball precisely is the major method of passing and all 22players on a team would kick 15-25 times a game.King-Eliagh wrote:Xman wrote:King-Eliagh wrote:Yes and i said the marngrookers can kick the drop punt well. 2. Do all RL players kick for conversions? no
3. Do RL players kick with either foot during a game? Yes! bs never seen it!even if they did it wouldn't be accurate. Most RL supporters look blankly back when you say afl players do this
4. Do RL players kick for goal during the pressures of normal play, ie when tackled etc? Yes! Drop goals I've probably watched 20 RL games and never seen one. How many we're kicked last year?
5. Do RL players kick while running full pace? Yes!Bs, never seen it! Show us a YouTube video. Even if they did it would never be with accuracy.
6. Do RL players kick over 60 metres? Yes!love to see a video of this! What, once a year?
7. Do RL players kick to a teammate who has a direct opponent with the primary role of stopping the pass? Yes!if your talking about a kick into the try zone this is hardly the same as hitting an opponent on the chest from 50metres out with a low straight pass.
You're a moron!

Re: The most skillful sport RL v AFL
Its all in the diversity of skills they use in kicking Xman. The drop punt is essentially one skill that is altered and adapted depending on the pass required. RL has atleast 7 styles of kick which are often used and also are altered and adapted depending on the pass and positioning required.
It just makes sense there's more kicking skill in the game of RL Xman.

Re: The most skillful sport RL v AFL
Diverse refers to different and addional skills Xman. There are more kicking skills required in league. Therefore RL requires and displays more kicking skill.

Re: The most skillful sport RL v AFL
There are just as many if not more types of kicks in the afl:King-Eliagh wrote:Diverse refers to different and addional skills Xman. There are more kicking skills required in league. Therefore RL requires and displays more kicking skill.
- drop punt
- stab pass
- banana kick - kick away from the body from the outside of the foot
- straight tumble punt - like a top spin off the front of the boot
- snap screw kick - kick across the body from the inside of the foot
- straight snap kick - this is like a snap shot but not as acute an angle and requires the kicker to hold the ball in a torpedo position but to contact the point closest to the player. Chapman for Geelong is great at this kick.
- over the head kick - executed by forwards like Fevola
- torpedo- Dustin fletcher is amazing at this kick 70m+
- inside snap tumble - like the straight tumble but off the inside of the foot. A buddy Franklin special and rolls and bounces to the favored side
- outside snap tumble - like the inside but used on the outside of the foot so it bends the other way
- then there are variations of the drop punt as used by forwards. Matthew Lloyd was a specialist at 'fading' or drawing his drop punt shots at goal. It's all in the way the ball is dropped and the side of the point where the foot contacts the ball
There you have it - diversity

Re: The most skillful sport RL v AFL
You forgot to mention "high and low" kicks again?
Ok The stab pass, straight snap kick and "drop punt shots at goal" are just versions of the drop punt, quit your glorifying here xman. All the other kicks you mention are very fanciful but i'll pay them. Thing is though they're all also used in league so please add them to my list, effectively doubling the RL's level of kicking diversity i described. So all in all RL still comes out way on top. :D
Look i know AFL players kick the ball more but skills are skills and most afl players are just very good at the drop punt and rarely use other types of kick in their game. The league backs and halves have a whole bag full of kicking skills which they apply each and every game, and often.
RL wins big boy, just cop it sweet cause that the way it is.

The stab pass is totally different kick and technique to the standard drop punt
The straight snap kick rolls over end on end, opposite to a drop punt
Most RL players don't even kick. All afl players do. All afl forwards would use these kicks.
Owned you silly boy.

You heard me. Explain the difference in technique. Explain how they are fundamentally different...this oughta be a laugh.Xman wrote:The difference between a standard drop punt and a stab pass?
And while we're at it can you confirm that both deludio and ling (AFL players) LOST the AFL goal kicking competition to players of other sports in the extreme classic tv show?
