Who is this Lockyer?
RECENTLY retired rugby league great Darren Lockyer is being chased to play Aussie rules alongside his younger brother Mat.
The 100-year-old Yeronga South Brisbane Devils, who play in AFL Queensland's State Division 1, hope to convince Lockyer to pull on the boots - even for just one game.
Mat said he hopes to sweet-talk his reluctant brother into joining him at Yeronga so he can fulfil his dream of playing alongside him.
"The only time I got on the field with Darren was at a junior rugby league carnival at Roma, when one of the kids was off buying lollies or something and Dad put me on as a replacement," Mat said.
"We weren't even in the same team in backyard football.
"I haven't spoken to Darren about playing for Yeronga. But I'll sit down with him over a beer at Christmas and have a yarn about it, even if it's just for a one-off fundraiser."

I like it! He could do it!
Rugby League has a lying culture. Altering crowd figures, relying on inaccurate TV figures from regional NSW and refusing to distance itself from Leagues Clubs and obtain it's own club memberships as it relies on LC's to survive as private entities.

Re: Who is this Lockyer?
He could have been captain of the All Australian team, and at his age he could have played for the Allies and been their captain.

Was that the nickname for the Queensland SOS team in aussie rules?
Remind me who does the All-Australia team play again? It's an award side just like the Dally M team of the year.

Re: Who is this Lockyer?
At least Lockyer had the opportunity to play other NATIONS in rugby league.
What opportunity is there in aussie rules?
NONE. Except that hybrid snoozefest that uses a different shape ball.

Captain of a team representing 22million who lost to a team representing 5million, of which 4.9million prefer RU.
Classic.
King-Eliagh: ...I believe [RL] is popular in all the other states and territories, bar tasmania.
