I seem to recall the VFL having clubs in NZ too before RL, when RL turned up, the 18 or so VFL clubs vanished within a few short years.

as the sentiment in the article reflects ... the only sport capable of beating Rugby League ... is Rugby League itself
all other codes with all their money .. bling .... misleading headlines & BS self promotion ...can't hide from the fact they are pale ... inferior products that aren't capable of unseating RL

even without any concerted effort , & massively under funded Rugby League remains our nations most watched sport
I would sense other codes would be s.hitting their pants at the prospect of this sport actually having a go & having the funds behind it to do just this

Gould is right when he says the RL is not doing enough. Eels fan, you will find that when RL kicked the other sport out it was strong in support. That support is waining now because RL got over confident. He recognises how hard the AFL is working and he believes RL should up it's work rate, and it's not because of that over confidence. The very over confidence that all you RL fans are showing. It is misplaced faith because your leaders are letting the team down.

Time to stop being so cocky and bail up your leaders about their lazy work.

Huh, none of our expansion clubs have failed. We have actually continued our spectacular growth in our traditional and expansion markets.

You lot on the other hand... hmm, lets see, Perth... failed, Adelaide... failed, Melbourne... financial basketcase, south east QLD... failed, Gold Coast... failed 3 times already. Nice record you lot have there.
